Hi guys, in the next few weeks ill be converting my Polo Classic to VR6 using the complete donor i have. Obviously the polo saloon is based on the cordoba/ibiza so i thought it best to ask you lot rather the on Club Polo.
I have a complete OBD1 Golf VR6, and a 1996 1.6 8v Polo Classic.
So can anyone help out as to whats involved and needs doing?

Cheers

the engine will go straight in and wiring will plug straight in but starting from a lesser model than a gti means u will need to change drive shafts, arb, hubs, discs, calipers, radiator, front panel(unless u chop it to fit a rad) fuel pump

if u change all the above to gti/cupra items it will be ok

Thats great thanks matey!
Can i use the hubs from the VR? as id also like to make it 5 stud fitment?
As for front panel im putting the Mk3 Cupra front on so that should be ok but ill make sure i get the Rad too....

Look forward to seeing this keep us updated and seatboy on here has a vr6 conversion and readers ride so would drop him a pm :)

Torred its a polo classic, bigger than a normal polo, same size as a cordoba
Still gonna be awesome, vr6 sound is just gorgeous

Just read through Presha's thread which has answered a lot of questions! Cant wait to get cracking now!

why not put the 2.8V6 4mo golf engine in? the wiring should be the same surly a mate of mines sticking one in a mk3 ibiza.

much much harder on the wiring side of things.

Would love to see this when finished fancying one with lpg in my van.

i used the wide track set up originally and after a few months it chew up the bearing casings on the inner cvs of the shafts

the strut tops are about an inch an half narrower then the mk3 golf, plus on the vr6 they have the wide track which is an inch longer and then when u use the steering rack the wheels will toe in abit even when fully wound in

as for the hubs the vr6 hubs are angled different for the bottom ball joint so u cant just bolt them to the ibiza wishbones and the vr6 ball joints wont fit the ibiza wishbones either

in the end i just used ibiza cupra shafts, wishbones, rack, uprated arb and hubs with vr6 drive flanges pressed in and re-drilled g60 discs

hope that helps

if you need the bits raddo-dave mentions ive got some to get rid of, get some pics up im excitable

Great ok. What about gear/clutch? Obviously VR is cable, and Polo is rod so guessing i can fit the stick selector from the VR into the polo and ill have to swap the peddlebox and they hydraulic clutch system from the VR into the Polo?
