Ebay is your friend for the cheap option. Something like this would work well;

And it comes with a really old version of the software. I'd suggest at least going for a uk seller, the cheap leads are usually china made anyway but at least you can send it back to the uk if it doesn't work.

Yup, shareware version allows you to do logs and read fault codes and clear them, that's about it
