To the first question, 2 B5.5 Passats which are virtually identical in this area, I suffered the effects of 3 floods, in all cases the insulation was sodden.
Perhaps its different on Exeos but I cant see how the water gets from the plenum chamber across the floor without contacting the insulation which rests on the floor, whats the findings of other flood victims? was your insulation soaked?
If you have only been doing it for 30 years I say, there is still time to learn, son, listen to your elders.
I think you need to take a pill

Ah great a diy hobbler that thinks he is an expert who suffered 3 floods on 2 cars , didnt experience tell you anything ?

B5.5 have different floor pans too B6 and B7s ,
the water as ive already said runs in the pollen filter and down the bulkhead steel work ,
it in turn goes directly to the passengers floor pan
the foam and mats in a B5.5 passat are a lot thinner and are mounted directly to the floor
as ive already said theres a space under the B6 and B7 mats where the comfort control module sits IT GETS FLOODED BEFORE THE MATS GET WET UNDER THE SEATS

And in reply too your vast knowledge on 2 passat which incidentally are designed diffrent in the first place to the B6 and B7 in the footwells as ive already mentioned (did i mention that ), i suggest you strip your exeo down and take a look at the differences if you want too keep arguing with your superior knowledge in the field SON .

Rubbish again son, insulation on a B5.5 Passat is attached to the carpets, not the floor, if you have ever lifted any you would know that, are you a tyre fitter by any chance?
Where does it say in my info that the carpet and insulation isnt one piece ???

I said it sits directly on the floor in a passat B5.5 theres no Void under the mats/foam like a B6,B7 and Exeo
please read my comments before making un educated replys
And please even better than that try getting some experiance before giving advice on a public forum .

And as for where i work or what i do its non of your concern ,
Theres a word for people on forums like you and its a Troll, look that up if you want .

Well he's a liar or very inexperienced, stay away!
I had a Passat that died from this, so was quite expecting the same from my Exeo
My fix has been to lay a thick line of white silicon mastic ( on a white car ) where water streams off the windscreen edges, so running along the bonnet hinge mount, to keep excess water out of the plenum chamber then regular checks and cleaning
