Hi all,
Apologies if this gets a bit wordy but I'm looking for a bit of advice to try and diagnose a strange stability issue. My car is a Leon Cupra 300 manual (2018, 44k miles). I've had the car a couple months after previously coming from a 7.5 GTI. Initially the car seemed fine, however now there's a very weird suspension issue I just can't get to the bottom of. It is quite hard to explain but it's essentially a road holding/stability issue. The car doesn't feel planted on the road and wants to wander around, but not in the way you get with misalignment (pulling to either side), it just sort of gets taken around the road with the bumps, like bump steer basically. It also feels like the body of the car isn't being kept flat when you accelerate hard, definitely not what you would expect from a car like this, completely different from my gti which is obviously the same chassis. It's manageable around town but at motorway speeds it is awful (wandering about the lane, bobbling around etc). I took it to my local VW specialist who have always been great so I trust their work, we replaced the front two DCC shocks with genuine seat ones, top mounts and bearings, rear trailing arms as there was a bit of play in the bearings and new front superpro control arms with polybushes. Also had a 4 wheel alignment and checked the wheels and tyres which are fine. This hasn't really solved the issue, the car rebounds a bit better due to the new shocks and the steering is a bit tighter from the polybushes but something really isn't right.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with problems like this or any ideas on what to look at/replace? The only ideas I've got now really are something to do with the subframe or maybe the steering rack, just really at a loss, would rather not as I love the car and the engine is awesome but I'll have to part-ex it soon as it's not really practical to have a car that can't go on the motorway. Would really appreciate any ideas, cheers.
