Air madness

Hi All
The air cleaner in the 1.2TSI is huge and there is already a cold air feed; the inlet tract looks like something off a 2 litre engine. I feel compelled to point out that this is probably one area of the 1.2TSI that won't give a return on investment!

Now the exhaust seems restricted by comparison. however it's the ECU mapping that's setting the engine power output (and progressively opening the motorised wastegate above 2500 RPM).

Best of luck with the modifications.

Oh okay cheers for the info ! Only had a brief look under the bonnet at the show room but im glad you told me ! So new exhaust is on the cards. I was looking at miltek but do you guys have any recomendations on what specific one to get. E.g turbo back ect ?

Also when you say opening the waste gate above 2500rpm does that mean it dumps its boost over the 2500rpm and no longer uses the turbo ?

Many thanks

Hi again

VW turbo petrol engines have a flatline in their torque above about 2000RPM and this is achieved by progressively opening of the wastegate. Torque * RPM = Power.

The ECU mapping is what is presetting the wastegate opening characteristic and defining the available torque.

Be aware that the gearbox is rated for 200Nm and the standard engine outputs 175Nm so there's room for a bit more, but not much.....

Where's those cheap ECU chippers?

Cheers for that mate. Understand now ! Dont suppose you know if the manual gearbox (I've gone for manual) will take more of is it the same ?

Thanks again !

I am referring to the manual transmission, which I have too. Don't trust DSG's to last 10 years.
