@Craig. Enjoy the car the way you like and stop worrying about the next owner of the car liking/disliking your mods ;) Whenever I change something, I always keep the original part, so you can always go back if needed.

@TripleBob maybe we have to investigate if we can retrofit MK3 items on the MK4 platform instead of the other way around haha. This way we have all the tech, but with buttons etc :D

Finally got round to changing the leaking headlight on the Leon. Looks like its a stone chip that's cracked it. Anyone doing this job, follow the official ELSAWin instructions and NOT the many YouTube videos - the bumper does not need to be completely removed

I went on a budget and put on Maxxis Premitra All-season AP3 on my 19" OE black wheels. Winter weather in the Netherlands is predominantly wet and these should do fine in those conditions. So far I am impressed with them!

They are no match for the Goodyears, those have been very consistent at the top (y)

Maxxis are now factory fit for BMW apparently: there's a brand new 1 Series around the corner from us with them fitted.

Today I switched to my "winter" tyres - Goodyear Vector 4seasons. These tyres are excellent in cool damp weather and in these conditions perform much better than the Continental SportContact 7 (CSC7) summer tyres. An added bonus is I get a few months of velvety smooth ride from the 17" winter wheels.
That's what I like when I swap my 17in summers to 16in winters! Plus it gives slightly more MPG figures too with 225s going down to 205s. To be honest, I really like the look of my Audi winter alloys, I think they really suit the car.

@Tester01 Hmmz, are you able to see coolant temperature? If so, what are the values with day to day driving?
Main Coolant seems to get up to temp okay?
Went on a short drive but been sat idle for some time with engine running.

However what’s concerning in obdeleven
The radiator temp seems low it never reaches specified value.
Something I’ve noted in the past even after a driver never gets closed to specified temp

Dont know if anyone has an obd to compare the reasons from their car

However also shouldn’t the radiator fans also kick in at this point seeing as coolant is above 100c?

I am running a 2014 280 and here is a screen shot of my values after the car being defrosted

Interesting thanks

Judging by-49 doesn’t look like yours has a specified value.

Will see if anything changes after the charge air cooler replacement next week at dealer.
Coolant system will be bled so maybe that’s an airlock in the system, that’s causing issues.

Hopefully.

And I wonder if the charge air replacement will resolve the crappy fuel economy I’ve been moaning about for ages, due to not being able to figure out why.

Although I saw this and I hope my intake doesn’t look like this…Especially as this leak issue has been going on for a while…

Braved the cold today with a bucket of luke warm water, and took the frozen snow off the car, gave it a good wash and de-salt. Looking so much better now! Must admit I really do like these Audi alloys that my winters are on.

Collected my car after charge air cooler replacement.

Will see how I get on now with the loss of coolant.

Running live data, I still think there’s an issue with coolant flow into the radiator.
And can’t remember last time I’ve seen or heard the radiator fan.
Judging from searching Ross-Tech everything seems to suggest that the huge difference in temp at radiator and overall coolant is odd.

I guess a good check would to be see if the bottom radiator hose is still stone cold after cars warmed up?

Also noticed now also a scratch on side of my car that I noticed when I got home, that I’m 100% confident has happened in their care but obvs I can’t prove it…So lesson learned? Always take pics of car before taking to dealer or garage.

@Tester01 The outflowing hose should be warm (but colder than the hose flowing in off course). If its cold, then the coolant is not flowing through the radiator...
Where would the hose on the engine 1.5 DADA
Looked at service manual but still nt clear what pipe I should be looking at.

On another note got in my car set to defrost - big fat failure lol
As it was defrosting AC on and set to blow at windshield car was just misting up inside…

Same thing that’s been happening for last 3 winters just don’t get it at all. Really frustrating

I did this multiple times and if it’s really cold just ice up the inside of the windscreen haha. The engine just doesn’t warm up quickly. I’ve given up and use a cover, or just accept I’ll be late on frosty days
