My first proper post as I'm an LC newbie. Here's how I got here...

Mini 1000 ('77) - my first ride and a proper shed
Mini 1000 van ('78) - still in shed territory
Mini 1000 ('78) - as above
Escort 1600 mk2 ('78) - as above, comfier than a mini tho
Saab 900 GLs ('79) - super shed/tank hybrid
Saab 900 GLi ('80) - as above, injected
Golf mk1 1.6 Diesel ('82) - cute but horrible engine even if it was cheap to run
Polo mk2 1.3 Coupe S ('84) - top car, bought for £600 with 145k drove 5 years sold for £300 with 196k, quick and fun
Golf mk2 1.6 CL ('87) - not quick, exciting or good on fuel but better brakes than Polo thanks to servo assist technology
Golf mk2 1.8 GL ('90) - an improvement on ^^^
Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 8v ('90) - now we're cooking...
Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 16v ('92) - vroooooom!
Merc C220D ('95) - comfy, quiet, slow, horrible to drive in high winds, only bought as 16v was KIA by a rogue HGV
Golf mk2 1.8 GTI ('91) - back in a proper car again

LC ('03, facelift) - just bought, I fancied some 1.8T action but don't have time or space to do a mk2 Golf conversion and mk4 Golfs don't look that great. The missus got the Golf now so now it can have an easier life and I don't feel like a complete turncoat.

Cheers all, Ste

Think thier was a patern emerging, so the seat has broke the chain.
I pick the seat up on monday, but so far the saab 93 2.2 was the best like traveling on air.
Looking foward to what the fr brings to the table.

Did you keep the A5 when you bought the 1.6 ecomotive (please say you did)

Sad to say that I part exchanged the A5 for the Ecomotive (+ £s). Was a life choice really. I could have carried on doing a stressful, crap job that paid well, but was making life miserable and kept the A5. Instead I took early retirement, got a really badly paid job I enjoy and downsized on the car front.
A5 was one of the best cars I've ever owned and certainly the best all-rounder, but out of all of them I miss the RS6 which was de-limited and had a stage II tune, the most. Awsome performance on the autobahn and big bike worrier in the traffic light grand prix.

Always wanted a Lotus one... !

I'd love one to use an occasional road car now. Back in the 80s the rally ones had a number of disadvantages compared to the opposition. VERY twitchy on fast bumpy straights! When Micky Sundstrom tested my lightweight 1600, some time after he'd left our team and got his factory drive, he reckoned it was quicker than his works Lotus. (Mine was used as the test mule for bits designed to go on his and Tim Brise's Group 2 1600s.)

Before I got my Seat, I lived in America and I had a 2006 Dodge Charger RT Hemi with the 5.7L V8 Engine. 350BHP Knot to 60 in 4.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.0 Seconds @ 101MPH. Not the fastest car on the planet but it was fast.
