I have a 2-year old 280 Cupra. Since then the 290 and 300 have appeared, but I recall seeing some time ago that some owners of 280s had checked their power output on dynos and it was almost 300 anyway....

So is there actually any difference in the engine between the the three versions? Noting also that the engine is essentially the same as the Golf R that claims more like 320hp...... Are they different maps and - if so - wouldn't it be simple to put the 300 map on a 280 car?

I've looked through other posts but cannot see this question being asked - although some have gone for more aggressive remaps!

A lot of people here seem to say there are no differences between the 280 and 290- just a badge. I'm going to assume that changing the mapping of an engine to give an extra 10ps is extremely easy so I would say if the 280 has been clocked at 300 then the 290 might be closer to 310 in reality. The torque figure is identical, so all you have to do to give 10ps extra is just make that torque available slightly higher in the rev range.

I believe the torque between the 290/280 and the 300 has changed - from 350nm to 380nm and that those engines actually have some technical differences. I'm sure someone here can confirm.

Yes this would be interesting to get some views on this as there seems no difference in 0-62mps times between 290 and 300, despite the extra horses.

The mapping has been changed but its actually changed to give the 290 a little bit more mid range torque and the 300 a little more mid range torque.

The overall power figures are almost identical. the bum dyno feeling is the extra torque.
