Ben , if you want to buy the car then get an independant garage not related to the sale to change it for you, get a quote and try to knock it off the price or close to it. also the warranty is worth **** in my humble opinion mate, they are trying to give you minimal peace of mind, knock another 100 off and take it without their warranty too. put this towards the cam belt change.

can you tell me why YOU think a warrenty is worth **** please. iv heard others say it is and i have my own thoughts but your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

they assume the car is good for at least that lenght of time, they bank on it getting past the month which is why they give it. also makes the deal sound sweeter to say comes with warranty, they can charge that bit more. lots of stuff will not be covered I'm sure. You can ask to see warranty and what's covered, they may even offer to extend it. but a one month jobby means squat really.

Also warranties become void for all manner of things which they use to weasle out of honouring them, need to read small print.

the guy said it was a FULL warrenty he told me "i tell people, if a light bulb goes, we replace it" i think by this he means what ever breaks they will repair, my thinking was if i have a months warrenty at least when i drive it the 130 miles home if the cam belt goes im not kickign myself cos they will have to sort it. ??? he said they only thing they dont cover is abuse or say if you dog chews throught he seat of sumin, he may have sed wear and tear, but nto 100%.

Yeah wear and tear, if a part has gone to end of useful life and should be replaced may not be covered. Light bulbs we can all afford!! Don't need a warranty for stuff like that.

im new on here, but from what youve said would suggest changing it for own piece of mind, overwise the dreaded bent valves or holey pistons will dent your wallet in the future.

Get it changed my LC has 76k on the clock full seat service history but no mention of a timing belt change. Mine has just started making a squeaking noise which a mechanic suggested may be a fan on the waterpump and may be on the way out and it did throw up the engine management light the other day, it makes an awful irritating noise. Phoned up Seat kidderminster today was quoted for full cambelt, water pump fit and 70k service it woud cost me £599.00:wtf: but am seriously considering it better than a new engine, which in the end would probably cost me what the car is actually worth. Good luck anyway.:)

well ive just had mine done at 6 years, 50 000 miles, i personally would have done it at 40 000 but i didnt own the car!! my belt was in good nick but its worth bearing in mind my waterpump was smashed to ****. So even if your cam belt lasts will your waterpump!? When youve spent so much money on such a good motor is 250-300 worth all that heart ache!?

I've just bought a 4.5 year old LCR showing 44k miles on it. The service logbook doesn't show anything saying that the cambelt has been changed so the first thing I've done is book it in to get that and the water pump changed. I'll get the guy there to have a look over it while its' there too.

A cambelt and water pump change will cost, what, 200-300 quid. An engine rebuild could cost several thousand. I'm not prepared to chance it on my car, personally.

It's very likely that at 44k miles it won't have even popped up as a scheduled item, but you're doing the right thing and changing it.

I've had so much trouble with cambelts over the years, I'm just glad that both my Toledo and my other halfs Almera are chain driven. Actually, so is my bike come to think of it. :D

Think the rule of thumb is 60k miles or 4 years, whichever comes soonest. The thought of a complete engine rebuild because I'd been too lazy/tight to get the cambelt change is too much to bear so going with safe rather than sorry :)

the reassure yaself and agree with him by reading the small print, you will kick yourself if you don't as have many before you

as for the belt it should already have 2 done but i bet it's likely only once

better off if in doubt get it done and recorded

could a 9 year old Leon with 100K on the clock still be running its original cam belt?

Whats the longest you've left yours before changing (age or/& mileage)

Yep I reckon it can but it wont be pretty... mine was 8yrs old / 92k miles on original and really needed replacing.

I bought my 1.6 16 valve last September/October, it is a 52 plate, so 7 years old, and had 75k miles on it. I was told this was its original belt, and so I didn't waste any time in having it changed.

Factory owners' manual recommendation:

- inspect at 90k km (~56k miles) and then from 30k to 30 k km
- change at 180k km (112k miles)
- nothing on the timeframe in which to change

Got inspected at ~60k km at the local dealer, belt was like new, tensioners were tight, no noises.

Car is 5 years old.

At 60k miles / 100k kms timing kit would be changed anyway.

I managed to squeeze 103k from my 51plate 1.6s (bought with 26.5k in jan 2004) got it done last april,no fraying but was VERY shiny and had heavy cracking on both cam & acc belt!!
