oh ok. Sounded like you work for an oil company........get on ur bike!!
I can get enthusiastic about things sometimes :)
like when changig something in/on my car (tyres, oil, filters, etc)
so i do my research, and this is what came out :)

I changed my habbit using 5w-40 castrol slx formula to the 5w-30 edge, and the thinner oil helped reduce petrol consumption and also the oil pressure builds up earlier in the winter time. I run the car mostly on short distance (<15km) so those are important factors to me.

if you do track days then you probably need something higher viscosity in the warm side like the 10w-60 edge sport but in normal conditions 30 on the warm side is more, than enough.

sorry if I do sound like a marketing guy for any oil company, I am not. really :)

You are on the right lines but u've read some utter gash by the sounds of it. lol

A 60 grade for a LCR or stage 1/stage 2 LCR is completely overkill! Also a good 40 will perform as good as a okish 30 grade for economy. Its all about the ingrediants used to make up the blend ;)

Wow that was a belated reply lol.
That's actually quite a common fault which also occurs with the correct oil. It's because of the change to cyclone type oil separators rather than the filter ones, the cyclones pass too much oil which as you know goes straight into the air intake system and causes the problems you describe.

Really?? Never had or heard of that problem before!! How do you know that the customers using the correct oil; this woman had a FBMWSH with us, but was topping up with shell helix 15w-40 (or something like that) part synthetic! found the bottle in the boot!

im going to change my oil at the weekend gonna buy 5l of millers 5W-30 Xf fully synthetic oil for my LCR , last time i bought some cheap multivalve oil not realizing that decent oil are to be had with these engines.

Same with any car witha any engine mate, the better you treat them and better quality products you use on them the longer and more fault free they will last!

Methinks 0W is bit thin unless you're in the Arctic ;) I mean Scotland isn't that cold :)

Recommended viscosities for full synthetic oils in a petrol Leon are:
5W30, 5W40, 10W30, 10W40 - at least according to the manual.

Personally I prefer Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W40 or Motul 300V Power 5W40

Oh ok thanks. I went in with the intention to get 5W30 but two guys that worked there recommended this stuff.

I will be ok though yeah? :(

Just found out I need a new Falken today too  Hard times.

Another full service and oil change taking place saturday. Taking my own oil this time.

Im torn between:

Castrol Edge 5w30 = 4litres £43.99 + 1litre £14.99 = £60ish

Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 = 5litres £49.99

From the price most people can get there hands on oil plus a filter on top you may as well (and are probabyl cheaper) just getting an oil and filter change from national

http://www.national.co.uk/oil-vehicle-search.aspx

Its £31.50 for me using Castrol Edge 5W30 and they say the price is based on supplying up to 7ltrs of oil so not bad i dont think
