Something very strange has happened.... I have lost my reverse gear!
When i try 1st it goes into 3rd to get 1st i have to put it into reverse and second is some unknown place i never knew existed!
This problem usually sorts itself out and its fine again but this time i'm not so sure.
Please can someone say they have had this problem and know what to do, I have asked people who should know and they dont! ?????????????

wow that sounds pretty mad. try and get it over a pit or jack it up, check all the gear linkages and/or gear cables. just seems to be the selecting which is the problem, hopefully not as bad as the gearbox breaking.

won't need a pit - mechanism is on top of the box in plain sight

if you can replicate the fault whilst stood still at all then get someone to change through the gears whilst you look from above at the mechanism and see if it's loose/slipping at all and check all is in place and tight etc

hopefully it's an external problem so would be first place to look and evaluate

I've had this happen to me twice now, both with the same fault, there is a bracket that holds the selector rods in place, held on the gearbox with three bolts.
Over time the bracket fatigues and fails, in my case on the part where the bracket mounts at the forward most bolt, resulting in crazy-if any gear selection!
It's easy to check, get a mate to select gears while you look at the linkages/bracket... if thats whats wrong you'll be able to see the bracket wiggling with the selector arms :)
