hey guys, newbie on here! been reading about all the turbo debates for 1.8 engine.
whats the ideal turbo for a 1.8 engine, fast spool up, aprox 400-420bhp?
ihi? garret? pe1820? jabbas new range?
everyones got a opinion, but is there a quality setup everyone can agree on?

IHI vf34 Gt28rs 325-340bhp
Jabbas Hybrids 380bhp-390bhp Gt2871r/gt hybrids 400bhp
Tdo6 20g, fp green, Gt3071r over 420bhp

Theres no quality setup everyone will agree on, one thing i do know is if you want 420bhp then some lag will come with it compared to a vf34.18. ? is how much lag can you live with?.

What did songman have? Was it a VF22 or the 34?

I think he said he could run it at 380bhp but decided to knock it back a bit to 360

Jabba took my car out to the limits of the 34VF20 - It made approx 380bhp and 400lbs ft, during mapping on the new dyno - it was finally left at 370bhp and 375 lbs ft with a nominal 1.6bar boost - my car having Pauter rods, ported smallport head, uprated valves, 3" exhaust, 100 cell cat, Dahlback manif, large Jabba FMIC, and Aquamist.

With these latest higher power setups now in the offing, it`s worth reflecting on the fact that my car at the above power output, equipped with Quaife ATB diff, lowered/stiffened Eibach suspension, 8.5" rims and 235/40 18 PZero corsa sticky trackday rubber, will spin up the wheels in 3rd on a dry road - it will also do the same in 4th, at three figure speeds on a wet road!!!

Td06 20g for me next on forged internals and flowed largeport. The aim is 440bhp.

Sounds amazing stuff!!:funk: - good luck! - i`m very tempted too, no doubt, but i`m a little bit concerned about the setup for normal day to day road use! - will wait and see how you get on:)

90% sure i'll be going td06 route. target is to get it before xmas. 400hp would do me.
looked at lots of dif turbos, td06 wont require to much work to fit to golf. hoping to have internals done end of sept, (rods and pistons), hopefully new bigger fmic too. all being well, i want new spec car running before xmas.
clutch and diff early new year.

I'm having a TD06 20g fitted to my Octavia at the moment. With a 1.9 conversion, I will let you know asap when its done and what Jabba got out of it!!

cool, hope all goes well! do you know if jabba modify the turbo at all?

MMMM, good question?? I had a VF28 on there before, and they have to modify that a little. I think the turbo comes from the States, they might mod it over there!! I will call Jabba tomorrow, and let you know.
