What turbos actually fit our cars?

I'm mainly asking this as somebody I know has recently purchased a turbo that was originally on a 3.0 V6 tdi, which is rated up-to 240 bhp standard (as per vehicle it was on).

I’ve been looking on ebay at different turbos from VAG TDIs and found that 2.5 turbos can be as cheap as £250 and rated from 148bhp to 177bhp (1997–2004 Audi A6)...and obviously those are standard figures (from wiki).

Would something like this be better/on par with getting a hybrid PD130/150 turbo, as it works out much cheaper?

Again, this would only apply if they fit to our 1.9s (as the 3.0 V6 turbo fits direct to my mates 1.9 Ibiza im guessing so :) )

I’m sorry if that doesn’t quite make sense, im useless with words :(

Check out the tdiclub.com for more info on that one, there's soooo many turbos and soooo many different fittings, the PD 130 and 150 use some variety of vnt 17 and the older 90's use vnt 15's. If you see a turbo brand new on ebay for £250 be very careful about buying it, there's a lot of cheap crap and it could cost you your engine. If you go on that site and search prothe you'll see what I mean.

What sort of power would you like to get and what car is it you have, what's the power rating, is it a PD or non PD etc?:)

Well, the certain one I was looking at wasnt brand new.
Also, Im hoping with a remap and the useual bolt ons to get around 170+ on my PD130, but im guessing having a bigger turbo would reduce the strain after a remap as its off a bigger engine/more bhp'd engine to begin with.

Not with those nozzles, they're good for around 150-155 tops I reckon, you'll need more like what I'm using for 170-180 with a vnt 17 and tune. Then you'll probably need a better clutch too for the torque. I'm not sure how good the newer 130 turbos are, they seem to break easier than the older ones but I could be wrong on that. Check out the tdiclub power enhancement section for loads of good tuning info on our older tdi engines.:)

Pd130 injectors are good for way more than 150-155!

Turbos of the 2.5 and 3.0 tdis will fit but it's not a straight bolt on. The turbos require modification to change from electric actuator to manual actuator. And then you need a manifold and downpipe fabricated to suit.

Plus a custom map to make the most of it

I would be getting a remap once everything is fitted and sorted out.

And changing actuator and manifold stuff is out of my league of mechanical knowledge :(

The PD injectors aren't much use on our older non PD cars though:p

You just need to find the right info to do stuff, there's loads of it all over the net though:)

Your not looking at just a remap though. You'd need a full custom map.
And to get the power your looking for, you don't need to do any of what your talking about. Unless your looking to get 250bhp + then your way off track

Who's 'our'?

The op has a pd130. So his injectors are perfectly capable of over 150

Are you sure? Can you fit 216 nozzles from a T4 van into a PD?

He's talking about tuning a non PD engine using the turbo from a PD engine, the non PD's were all vnt 15's but to get more than 150-155 you need a vnt 17 at least which came on the PD 130's and 150's.:)

What are you talking about

This thread makes no mention of injectors. And it's about using large turbos on a pd130.

I want it to sound better (exhaust), have the front end looking meaner (degrill and intercooler) and have cold(er) air going into my engine after remap (intercooler again).

Also, I have a 2004 PD130...so im guessing I have PD injecters?
