personally for my first car I think it looks the nuts :D haha no cupra but still
The problem im having is that i went out with a couple of mates the other day and we went in 2 cars mine and my mates 1.1L 106 and on an 'A' road I could not catch up with him or go past him which was dissapointing as mine is a 1.4 ok mine will weigh a lot more but even so I dont really want to getting overtaken by kids in saxo's and 106's is there anything I can do (other then stripping my car to make it weigh less) to make it a little bit quicker or anything without breaking the bank I was thinking I would start with and induction kit and possibly a custom cold air feed any other thought??
cheers for your time guys and gals:D

106's look sh!t though and leons look the nuts!! i cant help you with performance, but im sure someone will be along soon and give you some advice. 1.1 pugs are just really light little cars so he already has the advantage over weight, remove your rear seats and that should help you a bit.

105s were nice. I got overtaken by a 1998 Corsa once. Made a right racket God knows what he'd done to it.

Anyway on topic.

Looking at Parkers he must have one of the few 1.1 106 engines that can outpace yours so maybe you were just in the wrong gear.

If you add any performance enhancing mods on you're gonna need to tell your insurance company, won't be cheap I wouldn't think.

Just laugh at them that way they will presume you could not be bothered putting your foot down as it aint worth it!!

right, here i go again.... you wont get any power from that engine mate, what you want to do is spend the cash on handling mods to keep the power youve got on the road and keep up with the tin foil cars youve mentioned in the twisties.

also spunk some cash on better brakes so you can brake later into the corners and hold the power through them, they wont stand a chance mate.

so my recommendations on handling.

uprated springs and shocks
tt wishbone bushes
rear arb
s3 upper brace
s3 lower brace
new top mounts
good tyres... eagle f1, falken 452s etc etc
dogbone mount, ths recommended
ths uprated engine mounts

now with that little lot, they wont be anywhere near you mate.....

hiya m8,

I got a 1.4 and managed to get a k&n typhoon induction kit off ebay 4 £15 all it was missing was a bracket which i made, thats all ive done to mine apart from when the rear back box fell off it felt like it reved more freely so i got a 1.6 standed back box and its deffo much better than before, there just a few cheep ish mods, dose 121mph on the limiter lol, but it dont like it, also run it on some amsoil 5-30 oil as it spends most of its time in the high revs.

Ben

k&n and cold air feed, will basically do feck all for power, just sound faster than it is. youll need to uprate the dp and cat, and cat back to see any benefit, on a 1.4 the benefit of that will be negligeable.

seriously upgrade the handling if you wanna kick chavs asses.

haha yeh im pretty good on handling at the moment ive yet to find a mates car that can out handle me think its because the handling wasnt that bad standard and now ive got these new wheels running 225/45 17 tyres it holds the road so well I think I might do the dogbone mount on it first as ive found the car doesnt spin the front wheels like ti used to on my old mud and snow tyres, it just grips and goes but i think that killing the dogbone so im going to change that for something more rigid possibly the ths one as recommended by james, or maybe the forge one as they seem to be a bit cheaper and I havent heard bad things about them either. I might put the golf mk4 cold air feed from the grill to the intake probably wont do anything but still tidies engine up a bit. May do suspension aswell sometime when funds are available.
Dont think that K&N and the 1.6 box did anything gingerben as I've had 120 outta mine standard obviously on a private road of course. probably makes it sound faster but not much difference

its not huge m8 but when we only got 75 bhp anything more is better, but i have got 2 say the Typhoon makes a lovely sound but bit expensive new for a 1.4, my m8s got a 1.4 mk4 golf same engine and its faster than that, i got the rs6 18's on it and the bits i said dose the job for the minute lol, savein 4 the cupra r,

If I were you, I'd put all the money you're thinking of spending on performance and save it - then when you can, sell the 1.4 and get something with a bit more pace :)

Lovely looking car mate.:)
try a jetex open cone in the bay as most n/a cars respond well to derestricitng the intake.
The advice on handling and brakes sounds spot on.
good luck.
To make you feel better you don't have to pay the insurance or the car tax of the more powerful cars also.

Lower it a bit with a half decent kit and save the rest for the next car. Anything you spend on it you'll pretty much lose in reality so I'd save it (as much as I know you won't want to hear that!!) - or think about swapping to TDi - at least you'll have a turbo to do stuff with and it may be more reasonable on insurance. Just a thought.
