as above really.I have a set of mint michelin pilot tyres in my shed that are 255/35/18's you reckon they would fit ??

they may well 'fit', but they will handle like a bitch IMO.
the sidewalls will pitch & try & launch the car if you have to transfer weight in even moderate cornering.
not much to lose by giving it a go though.

yeah i suppose.
i was going to put them on the rear.
we have a tyre machine at work so might try them tommorow.anything is better than the naken tyres that some plonker fitted to it

not gospel, but a useful guide for tyre width vs rim width HERE

Form that you can see that they won't fit, but they would be the same rolling radius (if they did fit  )
225/40/18 has a 90mm sidewall.
255/35/18 has an 89.25mm sidewall.

I recon they'll rub like no tomorrow if you fit them...

When I ran Vredestein 225/40's on my LCR, with 5mm spacers I had inner arch rubbing on hard bumps... Oddly I didn't get this with any other tyre, so maybe the Vredestein was wider at the tread point than others...

I run 235/40/18 on 8.5/18 rims with 6mm spacers - that spec gives clearances which are right on the limit from the perspective of contact with the inner wing, and also from the perspective of contact with the local constabulary:whistle:

I must say that he who ventures out on our UK roads on a daily basis using 35 aspect ratio rubber is in my book a hero:clap: - true grit! - a spine of steel and a sponsership deal with a tyre depot
I`ve destroyed two wheels and tyres in the last year courtesy our potholed roads:(

I was on 225/40/18 rubber on 8inch rims with a 10mm spacer, fairly similar I guess and had zero contact with the arch but it must have been at the limits width wise.

I have seen a Leon on 20's god knows what it was like to drive

I had 235/35/19 on my Leon. No scrubbing at all with no spacers, or arch mods, plus it was lowered 90mm+. I know you can get 245/30/20 profile on no trouble but 255 is pushing it a bit, i would have to sat no go too, general consensus...

had a bit of a result with the tyres.i swapped them at work for the same but 225/40/18's instead so now have the right set
