I have an 11 plate 1.4 TSI Cupra and I am in love with the engine. Its amazing that a 1.4 puts out 180 BHP standard.

I just want to know at what RPM the Supercharger and Turbocharger kicks in. I'm having no problems just want to know :p
 
Supercharger is always on, its linked to the engine by a belt ussually so as long as your crankshaft is turning, your supercharger is sucking down the air :)
The turbo is exhaust driven so it will spool up later on in the rev range, i dont know the figures off hand im afraid. but if theyve designed the twincharge system right the supercharger gives you an immediate boost in air intake which compensates for any turbo lag.

I used to run a cooper S with the supercharger (not like the pretenders later with the turbo charger!)
Thing sounded glorious especially after i added a modifed K&n filter and airbox...
Drank petrol like it was going out of fashion though :p

I've got the new 1.4 ACT engine, its only turbocharged to give 140bhp... but i honestly dont notice any turbo lag... though comparing it to the mini was like apples and satsumas...

I'm guessing that if you're asking that question the 1.4 engines don't have much turbo lag! I know when the turbo kicks in on my 1.2, my passengers know and the guy behind me knows.
 
Thanks! :D The car doesn't have much turbo-lag, when I put my foot down the split second is it down changing gear then it shoots :thumbup:

Josh, your supercharger works from idle to 3500 rpm where it then disengages via a magnetic clutch. Turbo starts producing positive boost pressure at 2400rpm and stays on boost till 7200rpm.
 
Thanks Stevoz :) one more thing i didnt know about the Seat twincharge... im used to oldskool belts and tensioners, this magnetic clutch malarky sounds like witchcraft to me!
 
i dont know the exact rpm, but it kicks in just when the compressor wheel starts spooling up, however, you cant feel it before it gets to build up decent boost pressure..

I got a 177hp GTC turbo and big intercooler plus custom map in mine.. It starts boosting around 1500-1700 rpm.. Max boost is at 2700 rpm.. Its set to produce boost later to spare the drivetrain from stress..

Goes 0-60 in 6,5 sec though now, with a performance clutch
 
Turbos kick in roughly in the 2000-3000 rpm spectrum, this is experience on a 04 1.9 TDI and 13 1.6TD red I, the supercharger is just there to negate the effects of turbo lag

How do you deffine kicking in?

The spool starts way earlier than 2000 rpm, but ofcourse cant be felt fight in the start og the proces
 
No you get max acceleration when your torque is around peak..

Unless you mounted a bigass turbo which take long time to spool up and build pressure, you should be at max nm/ft lbs way before 3500 rpm.
 
Based on APR's dyno graph as stock you maintain the same torque from roughly 2600 to 5200rpm

On a practical note 2nd gear 40-50km/h is spot on.
