where is the best location for crossovers?

i'm about to upgrade my door speakers to a component, and i going to do the installation by myself
and i would to know where is the ideal location to install the crossovers

ive got mine tucked inside the door itself. unfortunately i dont have any pictures

i heard that it's not a good idea to leave it inside the door , becuase of water leaking
