Which Coil Packs and from where?

Hi all,

My car is showing an error code (16684 and 16687) so I think it's time for new Coil Packs for me

My question is ...the Coil Packs that are available from places like Euro Car Parts or GSF - Are they 'ok' to use? Are they as good as O.E?

Get them from awesome gti... £80 ish for all four and they are OEM

I would like to know where you could buy a single decent coil pack for not too much money,
I have a cheap coil pack in at the moment and allthought my car runs fine with it the enging management light is on and the error code "multiple missfire" comes up

Both Euro and GSF sell good coilpacks, however both sell a 'cheapie' version as well. As long as you specify that you want 'the good one' you should be fine.

I also recommend that if possible you buy one or two spares, my opinion is that a spare coil pack is a better option than a spare wheel, you've got more chance of needing a coil pack!!

Pollution light came on while sat in traffic the other day but she seemed to still drive fine... 3hours at the service centre, £108 and one coil later the car worked fine...for a couple of days
Then coming onto the dual carriageway the car started bumping along and Mis-firing...
After reading this thread I changed all 4 coils (£128 Bosch from europarts) and she drives better than ever - kept the one week old coil as a spare just in case

I got mine from a 2.0 litre passat, I've got 4 spare in my boot just in case lol

One more thing if your car has been mapped and your going through coil packs I'd go have alook at the map as it maybe not correct for your car.

they should have reverted back to those fitted in 2000.

16 year old car here running original oil packs. never had an issue.

LCR (2003) has got through a few.

ive looked at the ones on awesome gti. looking into doing the 2.0TFSI coilpack upgrade but not sure as think you need a riser plate as they are taller. Id personally never skimp on something like that.. it's like having budget tyres..its a no no in my book

yes they are longer, and therefore should have a riser plate fitted, although it doesnt really look difficult to engineeering something, - some have but are overcharging IMO.

has it even been confirmed that there is any real difference in these? i've seen info suggesting they are the same, just different in length, but no diffinative evidence they are different/an improvement.

They are exactly the same and there is no benefit to upgrading them. They are just a longer version to reach the deeper plugs in the tfsi.
