Which fuel filter do I need?

Hi,

I have a 2006 2.0TDi Altea (140) and want to change the fuel filter. The number on the canister is: 3C0 127 400B

Does anyone know the OEM or VAG part number for the replacement filter. I have looked on ECP and they have about 10 variations and I know I'll end up getting the wrong one!

It also has 55 142 01 written on it also - not sure if that's relevant.

Well, I'll admit that I know nothing about VAG DERV filters, but, you do seem to have quoted a VAG p/n, so why not try buying that as it is obviously correct for that car.

The canister part number isn't the filter part number though. It does relate to the filter but only if you have access to part number cross referencing. The filter fits inside the canister and is purely a paper replacement element.

Best I can say (from experience) is pop the top off the canister and take a look inside. It'll be one or the other of these two...

Humm, I see that I have done what I'd expect others not to do, ie post incorrect or guessed information, I apologise for that.

Right, if you want the VAG filter element p/n, then maybe try http://www.partscats.info/ and see which filter uses that housing.

Edit:- in this case, ignore the above advice as well - the p/n is a secret! Or maybe search under a different car model that uses the same housing.(trial and error)

Thanks for the comments guys - managed to get the number in the end by calling local dealer. Eventually they parted with the number and I got a filter from ECP.

For anyone interested the SEAT part number is: 3C0 127 434
The ECP part number is: 503440929

Simple job, took about 20 minutes and so glad I changed it because the old filter was BLACK and the fuel in the canister was BLACK with a small trace of water as well. Now running on nice caramel coloured fuel and running like a dream

Look for the VW1K0....... number on the canister.

The ECP site lists those in the filter details.

VW 1K0 127 400E uses the longest of the two filters listed.
