Which VAG COM cable / connector do I need for Mk1 LCR?

One of the lads at work is on a VAG COM group buy over on the Mk4 & VR6 forums, well over 100 people listed so far... discount is 20% and the cable & dongle will come from the states.

Anyway, I've asked him to get me one, but I'm not 100% sure which to get for a 2005 Mk1 LCR.

Do I need the HEX-USB+CAN (this one)

Just want to be certain I'm getting the right one

Yes mate.... Thats the one, as long as you have a USB socket... That one will do any VAG car from about 1995 onwards...

Fantastic! Thanks for that, I'll get him to order one for me That's the one he's getting. He's got a Corrado VR6 which he's doing an R32 conversion project on, and a Mk4 VR6 as his daily driver... I assumed this would be ok for my LCR, but wanted to make sure!

although the lcr is not a can bus, so you could just use the key-usb cable. but if it was me i would spend the extra and get the can version (the one you said in your original post)

The HEX+CAN series will work on pretty much everything ever made by VW, Audi, Seat or Skoda. However for the Corrado, R32 and your LCR the KEY series would do it too, but would not give you compatibility with newer CAN requiring models. So if you want "future safety" go for the HEX+CAN.

I think that's why my mate's going for that one as his wife has an Audi A4 TFSi S-Line, I guess it would work on that as well. I did have being 'future proof' in mind, as if I bought say, a new Cupra or whatever in a couple of years time, I wouldn't have to get another cable I'll go for the HEX-USB + CAN.

Prepare yourselves for a load of daft questions when I start learning to use it! lol (Me & computers / tech stuff aren't the best of friends lol)

didn't want to put 'another' thread up about this but having a bit of trouble with the exact cable/interface i need, i'm wanting to order a vagcom cable tonight (for use on an '04 LCR and MK4 Golf 1.8t) but i'm unsure about what cable to go for from eBay, i know you get what you pay for and the genuine cable is the best but i have never even seen vagcom running yet so just wanting to see how i get on with the software and if i like it i'll look into getting the full genuine version

I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) and i know people have had problems but will hopefully get it working, it's more about getting the right cable that i'm concerned about
