Whining sound and damaged wheel after cambelt/waterpump change

Had my cambelt changed by a SEAT dealer and I know the new guidelines say 5 years but the original said 4 so stuck with that.

I had the waterpump done at the same time and since I have had the car back there is a whining sound that increases in pitch and sound along with the revs. What could be causing this ? I took it back today (cambelt/pump done yesterday) and they had to adjust the cambelt saying it had moved a bit. Its booked back in to get it sorted as the whine was not there before. Power can be a bit off at times and as I got back into the car today at the SEAT dealership i noticed they had managed to kerb the wheel around a 7 inches of the rim and take a chunk out of a spoke

They had the service manger look at a pic of the wheel before i left and they will repair it. bit cheeky not owning up to doing it in the first place.

Where are there some good service places in the bottom south east wales ?

Sorry to hear this. This is an example of why I get so paranoid every time I leave my car somewhere for work to be done. Taking photos beforehand is a good idea when it comes to proving it was undamaged, but as always they have the upper hand unless you dont pay the bill.

Pretty shocking that you had to tell them the wheel was damaged, as if they didn't know!
As for your noise the cambelt tension must be too tight causing the noise, I wouldn't be full of confidence if they had to adjust the timing slightly and when you say power can be a bit off at times!
The reason you go to a dealer is so the car is perfect they are supposed to be trained and know the product inside out.

would be interested to see the outcome of this. I did my cambelt 3k miles ago. And it has whined ever since. not bad, just slightly, definitely worse when hot. I rechecked the marks on tensioner and it was every so slightly past the mark, maybe 1mm, but was when the car was hot. I wondered if it could have been a dodgy water-pump bearing rather than the belt tension.

my neighbors Audi TT 2.0TFSI does it as does my mates Audi S3 8p (60 plate). i took the drive belt off mine and ran engine and noise was the same so deffo cambelt / tensioner / waterpump related. Its never got worse in 3k miles.

The reason you go to a dealer is so the car is perfect they are supposed to be trained and know the product inside out.

dealers are fitters now, not mechanics. back in the day maybe but nowadays i only use people who live cars - are only happy when the job is done to perfection.

I don't let anyone touch my car, my local dealers are pretty poor,
I thought elsewhere in the country may have been different.
Obviously not.

Not every dealership is the same but sadly there are a few bad apples.

On a training course this week so it is booked in for Tuesday 24th but they won't get out of sorting this and I've noticed little nicks in each of the spokes on the other wheel that weren't there before but can't prove they did it as the car had been off site now.

Well the car has been in since yesterday morning and I rang this afternoon as they hadn't called me. The noise turns out to be a dry bearing on one of the idle pulleys that the belt goes round which rightly they say are sorting with no charge.

The Alloy wheel had to be sent to a specialist to be repaired as the onsite repair facilities could not handle the amount of alloy missing. This rightly was no charge either.

I am annoyed i didn't look at the left hand wheels as I noticed after there is a chip taken out of every spoke on the near side front and a couple of minor chips on the near side rear that were not there before either. They wont repair these as the car has been off site.

Going to GwentVW up the road in future if nobody has had a bad experience with them.

Yeah, im waiting for TPS to ring me back to confirm I can get mine replaced under warranty. Think it needs to be diagnosed by a Seat dealer, but as long as they agree, it should get replaced under the parts warranty. The bonus of using Genuine bits .
