White Oval on Display

Any ideas on this strange white oval that has just appeared on the driver’s display? Appears across all functions when scrolled through. Wasn’t there Saturday when I drove it, didn’t drive yesterday but it’s appeared today. Something to worry about? Will it go away? It’s still under warranty. Any thoughts anyone?

Apologies for the blurred pic but you get the gist.

All replies gratefully received.

Thanks.

Hi - odd, almost looks too uniform to be a flaw in the screen, like a shadow effect under the speed. Not had a software update recently presumably of you'd have mentioned that I'm sure.

Be interesting to see if others have it.

Nope, no software update since acquired in Nov 20. Yep I thought it too uniform myself.

Incidentally, how would I get the software updated? It’s a possible fix. Obviously dealer would charge a fortune. Independent a good bet? Don’t fancy doing it myself. Might enquire with my local independent garage - VW specialists.

Car is 2018 plate.

Thanks. I’ll see what those you mentioned think. Then maybe consult my local independent VW specialist.

@Syphon now here is an interesting thing I’ve just noticed. Upon start up when the Seat logo flashes on this screen, it appears to be reflected in the white oval but in reverse. Like a reflection in ice. Not full size but at an angle. Not full size either. Weird indeed.

It’s not a “feature” is it for when it’s cold? Surely not. Nah, I still think it’s a fault, maybe with the software.

That I would say is one of the screen back washes belongs to the sequence where Cupra people get their diamond (carbon) one from . That's not the virtual cockpit screen but the regular MFD. Is it a face lifted car.

If it's suddenly appeared and was never there before it means your long string in the dashboard module has been corrupted (real and imaginary changes). Checking my Obdeleven thread when I was asked generate the Cupra one

How to get the Cupra screen on the infotainment unit... not your question 😂

They are called "skins". Your skin has gone wrong on the dashboard based on what you say.

You have not had a dongle or VCDS cable plugged in by chance ?.

In the dashboard unit it's under "display depiction" in adaptions. It should be set to "version 1" that's the standard background wash. Version 2 is the Cupra one, you'd have to check what the others give you. Pretty sure my default doesn't have that effect. See attachment - that's mine as it should be. If you want to go to full Cupra it's version 2 and the link above for the infotainment unit 🤣. I don't set the car to pretend it's something else. The pattern displays don't help readability as far as I'm concerned.

All the programming tools follow the same methods.

Without braving the cold, looking at my thread I reckon display depiction version 1 has the oval in it... attachment 2. It's the default ;).

The skins can only be changed by programming. With the 2020 FL models it seems you can program the dashboard display from people's post but you are locked out of the infotainment unit (new SFD lock down on VCDS tools). Thus you could get a dongle with the programming options so you can experiment with the skins or just accept it's a way of life. Perhaps you like carbon then it's the version 2.

Trust that helps. In short, don't worry.

It’s a July 2018 plate. So not a FL model. I’ve not had anything plugged in to it. Thanks for the reassurance that it’s not that bad. Do I have to live with it though? I’m guessing I’d have to take it to a dealer to plug in?
I do have a good relationship with my local VW independent garage (Volkservice), as I’ve always bought VW, Skoda and Seat. Worth talking to them?

Live with it. It's the default setting as Seat intended for the car. If experimental and you had the kit you could try the other screens. Have a feeling might only be that or the Cupra one without checking. Seem to recall I tried the rest out and didn't find much else. They are the customisation hooks that are built in for branding which are just controlled by software. Make it look like a Cupra without the engine and brakes etc.

Thinking about it reckon that's suppose to be a light bulb behind a screen in an arte fashion. Their arts department came up with that. Cupra's get the carbon mesh background which is more difficult to read against when I tried it out when asked how to do it. So reverted back to the standard design.
