NICK..MIZEN

Hi all .. My lovely wife has just put £50 of unleaded in my Altea TDI Sport and not suprisingly conked out on the A1 .. I spoke to the seat pit crew and the AA are coming for her and our bown to take her to MK Seat .. Has anybody any idea on what they will be initially asking and if we'll need everything they'll be pushing for .. Many thanks and I appologise as I've read posts on this before but you can understand how urgently I'm after some info please ......Thanks

I cant get through to her now .. I think shes ignoring me ..

Ouch - could cost a few grand mate !

I put petrol in mine the other month (only £5 before I realised) - but pushed it to a diesel pump & brimmed it. As soon as the engine is started, it will start to pump the petrol around the engine.

I'd also take to a VAG specialist (have a look in the sponsers section & see if there is one near by)- the dealers will sting you for all it's worth.....

Can you go down the insurance route for something like this ?

I was only joking anyway ... The bad news is though she drove as far as she could ,then tried stating again and again prob 30 times ... So no question of the pump/s being knackerred .. Just hoping there is'nt much more (not hopefull though)..
She's at an independant garage now ......

Its about time garages took a look at how they present and design pumps.
Although people mock, its amazingly easy to mix pumps up, never mind when changing from car to car and there is little to stop this if you use another car and automatically select a pump.

Manufacturers also could help by making it clear that a vehicle needs diesel or petrol, colour coded filler caps, or having 'DIESEL' or 'PETROL' written on them would be a help for starters.

Id recommend anyone that uses different fuelled cars to put a great big label on the filler cap.

The garage seem to think everything will be ok when they flush everything out with some kind of additive they have ... Only time will tell ... I
've got everything crossed ,even my wires ..

Im sorry to hear about this, ive never put petrol in a diesel, but heard a few people doing it the other way round, heard its not as bad?

I drive a diesel seat a weekends/weeknights for play and a petrol fiat during the week for work, ive never however put the wrong fuel in, and hope I dont!

Hope it gets sorted mate

:D Deffo the wife ... I'm at home on the wirral .. My wife's very kindly putting even more miles on my car for me .. this week , Wirral -Perth -Milton Keynes-Devon -Wirral ... If that does'nt warrant the cost of the due service and two tyres then I dont know what does .... Even If I'd done it ,your right I'd probbably say it was her anyway LOL !!

not too sure about this...as soon as the engine starts pumping the fuel around it will cause untold problems, especially a full tank of petrol in a diesel

My mate filled up his X5 with petrol instead of diesel, luckily he realised as he was paying...the mechanic (a close friend) said that he was lucky as all he needed to do was pump out the fuel and fill up again with diesel this time. OVER £200 worth of fuel!

You cant fill your petrol car with diesel (pump wont fit), but you can put petrol in a diesel car.

I got mixed up when taking my (petrol) bike to work for a week, then got into my car at the weekend to fill up............

Never done it in nearly twenty years of mixed vehicles (always had more than one car). First diesel a Pug 205 back in about 1990.

Touched wood and hopefully no curse.

you sure?

i know leaded or lead replacement petrol has a larger nozzle than unleaded so that you cant put leaded into an unleaded car. (well thats the theory). I wasnt aware there was a similair set up for diesel to petrol...?
