Windscreen repair/replacement

I cracked/chipped my windscreen today. It's just below the camera section of my windscreen, that picks up the traffic sign for the dash. Couple of questions:

- it's covered under my insurer with an excess and Autoglass. Will this effect my warranty or anything?
- can autoglass even do it, given it's got the camera?

Never had a chip/crack before, so a little baffled.

I'm currently in the process of getting mine replaced so I'll tell you what I know. I went to get mine done today but unfortunately they had ordered the wrong windscreen since they got one for a Leon without adas (the camera system).

Replacing the windscreen shouldn't affect your warranty

Since you have the camera autoglass will replace your windscreen but you will need to take it to another company afterwards to recalibrate your adas. Autoglass should pass your number over to the company after you have had the windscreen replaced so they can get in contact with you to arrange to have it done. I think the recalibrating is all covered within the cost of the windscreen excess, but I'm not sure yet since mine is being done next Tuesday now

Replacing the windscreen with anything other than stamped SEAT glass will void your warranty.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for the stupid question: is that just the wrranty of the windscreen, or does it effect the rest of the car? It's a 17 plate.

Can you post picture of that chip? Usually if it's small it can be fixed, I did 7-8 chips on my Toledo, I got them in 10 years of driving it :) but used Rain-X cracks and chips repair, only 1 is barely visible rest I even can't find where are they at all.

I've had two screen in the last year, both done by Autoglass. I also have the camera for lane assist.

You need to call Autoglass and ask to speak to their ADAS team. They will look after you. Link here https://www.autoglass.co.uk/glass-repair-and-replacement/camera-calibration/

I took my car to the local Autoglass ADAS centre and they changed the screen and re-calibrated the camera, as I say its been done twice now and first class service both times.

All screens are the same, the screens with SEAT stamped on them are no different to the ones without SEAT labels. I confirmed this with the Autoglass guy at the ADAS centre. Non SEAT screens are SEAT ones with the label scratched off. They just go through the SEAT parts chain and add cost, that is the only change.

Sadly a screen without the SEAT label will give SEAT a route to avoid any warranty claims on the ADAS system. Therefore I would recommend you ask Autoglass for a OEM screen.

Any other queries let me know, I've been through a lot of hassle with screens, ADAS re-cal at dealer ( a total joke and made it worse) and I work with some ADAS systems at JLR so have some experience in the topic.

Thanks for the link. I will give them a call. I presume this isn't covered under my insurance deal with Autoglass though. Do you know the cost difference between them and SEAT? I don't know much about car warranty, as this is my first brand new car. So replacing with non-OEM screen would just void warranty on ADAS and NOT the rest of the car? I plan to extend the warranty to 3 years, so really want to cover myself.

As requested, pic attached. Again this is my first repair/replace. Note proximity to the camera!

I'm absolutely gutted mate. I was driving back home from a long commute down South, and stuck behind a truck, who in-turn is behind a moped going 40mph on a country lane. Truck hits the edge of the lane, crap/dust/earth shoots at my car and BANG. Heart sank.

My insurance covered a new SEAT screen and ADAS recal with just the usual excess, this was the case both times.

I would have thought that a non SEAT screen would only void any warranty relating to the screen and associated systems ( wipers, ADAS etc.) but only SEAT can confirm if that is the case.

As your car is so new I would tell Autoglass that you want a SEAT screen, that's all I did and they handled the negotiations with my insurance company etc.

I've spoke with Autoglass now. I asked for an OEM part (presumably they can't get SEAT stamped on it?), so they've put through an authorisation request for it from my insurer.

If they get authorisation they will get a SEAT branded screen via a local dealer, might take a week or so to turn up. Thats what they did for me. Did u speak to someone from the ADAS team at Autoglass ??

To confirm: does OEM literally mean it'll be branded with SEAT? They didn't really say it'd be a SEAT screen, just that it's OEM.

I spoke to the general repair line, mentioned my insurance and the ADAS, and she went away to speak with the "expert team" to understand which part. She then came back and said because I need it calibrating, I will need to go to one of their service centres. Then I stopped her and said I really want to keep within warranty, so asked whether they could get an OEM part, so she fiddled with the options and spoke about the authorisation.

Does that sound right to you? Super thanks for your help by the way.

It will affect the warranty of sensors related to the windscreen only. So auto wipers etc.

That's great, thanks mate. I did call SEAT UK Customer Services this morning and they more or less said the same thing.

I mainly care about the Traffic Sign Recognition because that's been really useful. Do you think they'd argue the toss if a fault came up with the ADAS stuff?

There is a risk that they could. I wouldn't run that risk.

Yeah OEM means it will have a SEAT logo on it

The rest sounds about right, you will have to take it to a service centre for the screen to be fitted and the ADAS calibrated, takes about an hour. They have to get the OEM screen authorised via the insurance company as there is an increased cost.

That is more or less what the lady said on the phone. I shall explicitly asked about the SEAT logo when they call me back about the authorisation and time slot. If it is the OEM screen without the logo, would you still get it done? Or am I totally misunderstanding the concept of OEM?
