front windscreen wiper is making a really annoying noise when it is fully extended when doing over 35mph, sounds like its hitting something but ive had no luck fixing it or finding the problem. Very annoying problem as live in northern ireland and rains almost all the time, just wondering has anyone else experienced this problem??

I got a set of wipers from Halfords once, and they did this. Some wipers have little spoilers on them for some reason, which at speed press into the windscreen (which is what they're meant to do), but at a wierd angle, so the spoilers clink against the windscreen. It annoyed the hell out of me, so I went back and got some that specifically didn't have spoilers on them.

Thanks for the replys, i have always wondered if the spoilers make a difference so il try either removing them or buying a new set. I will also check the spring mechanism. Thanks :D

The spoilers do make a difference, at least on my Toledo. The screen is at such an angle that at 70-80 the wipers would lift off the screen and not wipe properly. Putting on some new Bosch blades with a wiper solved the problem.

I used to have blades that made a noise at the end of their travel. I figured that it was because the rubber was worn, and it was the 'flop' when the wiper changed direction. A swap to Bosch solved it (and all my other troubles).

update

had a look at the blades again. the spoiler on the wiper seemed to be hitting the windscreen on the return which isnt great. so thought the spoiler might have been put on the wrong way so flipped it round and so far no noise. after flipping it round and refitting it the wiper felt tighter on the wiper arm so i think problem solved. :D

Glad you posted this, i had the exact same problem on mine after i changed the wipers.

It sounds like a part of the wiper was hitting the glass when it went to the top of the windscreen to come back down. It annoys the hell out of me!

My wipers dont seem to fit into the actual wiper arms properly, theyre the bosch ones from halfords with the spoilers on. Gonna try what you did and see if that solves it!

HALFORDS WIPERS!!

Don't talk to me about this, I have had endless problems with them. My only advide is when you find these blades in Halfords, WALK AWAY. They're not worth the effort of putting them on the shelf. Rubbish.

Go for the criminally overpriced Bosch ones instead, or if you can wait buy online.
