Wiring additional footwell lights?

Did you get the red leds yet? Looking good? Do you have a link to them. I’ve found some adapters for the wiring loom to fit the cars original connections, going to fit them soon
Hi,
Not yet..... between 11-23 June. Hopefully they will be a straight swap. Here's the link for them....

I'll post some pics when they're done. Pleased you found a workround. I did have to extend the cables slightly, maybe the way I routed them. You should be OK with the adapters though.

Yeah keep us posted, be interested to know if they can be dimmed without flickering!

Annoying (for me at least) that all the interior/instrument cluster lights are red (and can't be changed), I've set the door ambient lighting to red to match, the door sill lights are red... But footwell ones are white?

Also hurts my OCD that the mode button lights up orange 😡

You can change the mode button to be red via OBD11, Carista or VCDS

Ooooh - don't suppose you know exactly what needs to be set? I'd already tried searching on here and googling and couldn't find anything other than how to turn the led off completely (which also disables the button)

OK... so the red LED's arrived yesterday and were a straight swap for the white ones. They dim without flickering and look about the same brightness as the front ones.
For the front ones I replaced all the interior lights with this pack from LEDPerf....

You can specify diffent colours for glove box, footwells etc, so I changed white for red just for the footwells. Although if I remember correctly, I had to change the front roof ones for something else as they didn't go out completely. Even after fitting resistors, but that might have been my fault.

As for the Mode light, I don't believe Carista lets you change it to red on a facelift car, but it might have been updated since I tried. To change it to red on mine, I took the switch apart and used some coloured cellophane wrapper from some sweets. I thimk you can see it in one of the photos.

The photos show footwell lights at about 1/3 brightness.

Looks great!! Ok I think I need to get some of those replacement modules too then, as my lights have the soldered LED boards inside them already like yours. Is the red colour a good match to the existing red light switches? Certainly looks it in the photos
Cracking idea on the red film for the Mode switch - how easy is it to remove the switch unit and dismantle the switch itself? I'd been thinking about trying to take it apart and replace the led itself, but wrapping it is a much easier approach!
How have you done the usb/phone area light? Mines white - is it a bulb swap again?

Thanks. The front footwells are 5W types I believe and yes the red is a good match.

You have to remove the complete heating/air con panel.... start at bottom edge and just prise it out. The switch just unclips and then you have to prise it apart. I put the cellophane next to the lens bit, not on the LED. I had to experiment a bit until I was happy with it.

There is an option in Carista, under lighting I think, to change Mode button to red but it's not available if you have a face lift car.

The USB/phone lights are not original. I used red LEDs wired into footwell lights so they dim as well. You should be able to see the phone one when you remove the air con panel. I don't know if the USB light is a standard fit in any trim level.

You said your door sill lights are red.... is that the FR logo on the sill protector bit? Mine are white, but red would look good

This is the instructions I followed

Ahh, ok I didnt mean the LED strips in the doors (I've a 2018 facelift, so the door strips are RGB), I meant literally the button above the climate control that toggles the drive mode profiles. As far as I can see it can only be disabled :/

You're making me spend more money now!!! :ROFLMAO:

For the footwell lights I've now ordered 2x sets of THESE (seller accepted best offer of £9.99 for each) in red - to replace the OEM LED modules in the front footwells as well as those in the rear footwell lights I've got coming from aliexpress (ordered the kit @Stefan147 posted, but it's still enroute)

Will see what can be done with the USB light, as its a piercing white atm and for some reason WAAAAAY brighter than any others. And yes apologies, when I said door sill lights I meant the illuminated scuff plates... on mine the FR logo in the plate glows red, is that not standard? I'd just assumed it was another VAG group random lighting decision :p I'm sure they decided button illumination colours by drawing colours out of a hat

As the USB/phone did not exist I used couple of these in each place. As I said, they dim with footwell lights, so not too bright....

I'll check scuff plates again tonight, as I'm not sure now. 😕

Sorry, if it means more spending 🙂

Thanks. Bit of a faff with the sill trims and there's a little clip on the carpet each side, almost under the seat rail. If you remove it, it makes routing the cables under the carpets easier. But it's a pain to get back in.

Well I tried making my mode/start stop/airbag lights red today. Pulled the climate control unit out, popped the switches out and dismantled them... Wrapped in front of the LEDs in a double layer of red window tint film... All I succeeded in doing was making the lights appear more orange 😭

I had a similar problem. I think I ended up using more yellow than red. As yellow and orange make red. I put it at the back of the front of the light. Opposite end to LED. If that makes sense.
