Thermostat is being done the weekend as seems to always read low on the gauge, but yeah turns over for probably 5 seconds before starting.

When the clutch dropped last night I tried bumping on the key so I could just drive home clutch less... It didn't go and reset all my dials and trip etc, like it'd been flat.

Was gonna give it all a clean out, I've read on here someone did that, didn't wanna replace the battery if it wasn't that.

Map it out, or can it be adjusted on vag com?
Not looking to map just yet, want to get it to a decent state first off I guess

Unfortunately either a new battery or a change to the map will solve the issue, you could try a clean, may help a little ;)

The ECU contains four starting maps. Two have the corrects settings for starting the engine when warm the other two have missing values (stupidly).

Basically, when the coolant is higher than 70'c the engine has to spin to 250rpm before the ECU starts injecting diesel. When the battery starts loosing power, it's unable to spin the engine up to the required RPM so won't start unless you press the accelerator.

When the engine is cold (less than 20'c) the ECU starts injecting fuel from 0 rpm.

Everything between 20-70'c, diesel will start being injected from 200rpm

So if I press the throttle it'll start? That'll be a start rather than attracting very stunned looks.

I'm gonna need to disguise the car with a private plate when done at this rate so I'm not recognisable haha

I'll try the cleaning business, same applies for terminations etc, all over a few weeks, I don't use the car all that much, especially not when its warmed up and left.
I'm reluctant to map just yet, don't want to get too bored too easily, wanna use the car as a dog, improve it bit by bit, then I'll enjoy it for longer haha, just a shame FMIC is so expensive really.

Air box modding is next in the modding side, free mods first like debadge, de wiper, as I need to drill the totally rounded screws out to change the filter anyway that'll be another free mod.

Did buy those egr blanks you recommended though, amazed at the quality for £4.98 the pair!

I don't think it will looking at the map actually...

Out of interest, where in the country are you living?

There are a few good mods for little money. Honda S2000 filter is cheap (£15 for a full open cone filter).

If you're looking at more power, that's when £££ is needed ;)

Wiltshire mate

Was thinking mod the air box for now as it's free and go from there.
Once the cars up straight I'm game for a few ££ mods though :)
