Worrying knocking noise on my Cupra TDi 150

I am still using my OEM DMF no problems at all but i have heard of DMF`s failing on highly tuned diesels.....when driven hard.)

Yes the DMF is there for a reason, if / when it fails, can it destroy other parts in that area? (I.e. the bell housing?, not sure about the anatomy of FWD cars).
