Hi All,

I need new pads for the front. The new ones from Seat are about £40 for the pair but I can get some EBC ones for about the same price.

Is it worth upgrading with standard discs? I will need new discs in the future and will probably go for the EBC grooved ones to match the EBC pads.

Also - there are EBC Redstuff, EBC Greenstuff and EBC Ultimax but no explanation on what the differences are. Can anyone explain?

Cheers,
Ross

Im not sure if it's worth upgrading with OEM discs but I think it should make some difference...
They are made from kevlar which don't give off much dust and keep your alloys relativley clean

ive put on some ebd ultimax - cheap as chips @ £25. im thinking of upgrading to a 312mm setup soon so didnt want to fork out to much

If you don't want to use the ebc ones for the performance, get'm because they hardly give any brake dust. It saves cleaning ya wheels every week. You certainly won't regret buying them.

The greenstuff pads are the ones to go for, the redstuffs and up are mainly for motor sport use and will need to be driven and constantly used until at working temp or you won't stop!!! The pads may wear out slightly quicker than oem pads but thats not really an issue as you've got better brakes. I'm thinking of doing the same on my LC TDI when they are due.

I've heard other people say this but I've got yellow pads on the front and red on the back and i wouldn't say i use them excessively and i've never really had a problem.

Next time you take the car out drive carefully and then when ya get out car feel how hot ya disks are!

What are they like performance wise compared to standard ones? Where is the best place to buy em?

I got mine the same time as getting some nitrac disks drilled and grooved. So i don't know exactly how much of the improvement was due to the pads. but i suspect most of it.

Brakes are a lot sharper. I my opinion well worth the investment, specially if they need replacing anyway.

I bought mine from europerformance but i believe venom are pretty cheap and I've heard good report about'm.

If you want EBC pads get their Greenstuff, only use the Black Ultimax stuff for the rear pads. Remember though, NEVER put better pads (upgrade) on the rear than the front. EBC recommend Greenstuff for cars up to 200BHP. If you have more power or use it for Track days, then put Redstuff Ceramic or Yellowstuff on it.

I would not recommend the Turbo Grooved Discs. My father had them on his Scoobie, even though they looked good, they were very NOISY under medium and hard braking. We have now changed them for the new Ultimax Black Slotted Discs and so far they are silent when braking.
