Put the car in for its MOT on Thurs and it failed on major leak from backbox.

I thought this was very funny as I've just put a new Milltek non res mated up to a backbox I got from a guy on here which was 9 months old. I believe this is correct because the box looked almost new. I've had it on since end April.

I've just taken it off to be greeted with this:

(this shows end that mates up to the centre pipe)

Of course the lifetime warranty is all well and good, but only if you bought it new, as I don't have a receipt its no good :(

I've heard mixed stories about Milltek but I always believed they were very good, how wrong I was.

Hopefully I'll get it fixed/welded by a guy round here that can weld stainless steel, otherwise its a new BB :censored:

Edited for update, see here:

Thats pretty shocking, I dread to think what it may be like inside as exhaust usually rust from the inside out. Is there baffles in it or is it straight through?

ive always run scorpion, on cars, bikes, scooters,

ive heard a lot of stories about milltek and for the extra you pay for miltek over scorpion i think its appauling,

damn, that is bad. you do have some room for movement on the exhaust dont you? i was thinking if there is no movement available then any bumps etc would start attacking the weakest points...i may be talking shite tho....

i must admit im shocked at this. i have always used milltek and found the quality to be very good. i have used them for all my car exhausts. some i bought new and some second hand and i have never seen this.
to be honest im pretty sure milltek would give you a replacement even tho you didnt buy it new, they boast there quailty so i think they would be very dissapointed aswell.

Yep, the exhaust was able to move on the hangers etc, it certainly wasn't solid in place, and it was fitted by a garage too, so its not like I fecked it up lol! And that wouldn't apply to the tailpipe outlet which is fecked too :(

I bought a brand new Milltek system for my Cooper S a few years ago. After a few months I had an annoying rattle when the car was under load, it was found to be the baffles in one of the rear silencers had collapsed.

Also lost me 15bhp on the dyno!

I think that Miltek have a lifetime warranty ? This is a copy paste from Miltek website:

Aftersales Care

Q. Is my exhaust system covered by a guarantee or warranty?
A. As long as you are the original purchaser, cat-back exhaust systems are covered by a lifetime anti-corrosion and manufacturing defect warranty and hi-flow sports catalysts and downpipes are covered by a 2 year or 80,000km warranty. We do not cover against any modifications made to our product after it has left our factory and also not for unusual use of the parts - for example, the use of Nitrous Oxide (NOS), damage caused by going over a speed bump too fast etc. Our warranties are offered on the understanding that the cars power maybe increased by up to 33% from it's original specification. Modifications made to increase the power beyond this will render the warranty void.

We pride ourselves on our after-sales support and customer service and will look into each case on an individual basis.

All warranty cases should be dealt with by the Milltek appointed distributor from whom you purchased the system. However, if you are dissatisfied with the service of your distributor in response to your claim, you can contact us directly by emailing us at [email protected].

Please note: Milltek Sport hi-flow sports catalysts are manufactured from the highest quality materials and built with maximum performance and longevity in mind. However, they are designed to work specifically in conjunction with other Milltek Sport products and should not be used on their own (with the OEM exhaust system) or with other manufacturers exhaust systems. If the Milltek catalysts are fitted with non-Milltek exhaust systems, we are unable to provide any guarantee regarding noise quality, fit, performance or warranty against their operation.

I'm not the original purchaser :(

As above, they're not interested if not original purchaser. Theres been other threads on here about it about people who have lost original receipt etc....

Why are you taking other people's "experiences" as being the bottom line. Do something about it yourself.

Get in touch with Milltek, explaining how disappointed you are and how let down you feel after being convinced by their "high quality" branding. Include a link to this thread and I think you might be surprised with how quickly they'll replace your backbox.

i agree with this, milltek dont want a bad name, they will do what they can to stop that

get in touch with Milltek ;) Ask for Connie.

Read my thread in the Awesome Gti section if you want to know the truth about Milltek's excellent customer service.

They will help you if they can. The original purchaser should be able to help you out with an ivoice number at least if it was that new.
