Wrong ECU 1.8T. Options?

Hi guys,

To cut a long story short, the previous owner of my latest 1.8T had a great deal more enthusiasm than knowledge. Result: I have a BAM ECU in an AUQ car. It's throwing a fault code for an exhaust temperature sensor open circuit, predictably, because the AUQ doesn't have one, and also for the pre-cat lambda sensor, which is brand new.

My options, as I see it are:

1. Buy a second hand ECU from an AUQ and have the immobiliser removed
2. Wire in an EGT probe
3. See if it's possible to remap the BAM ecu with an AUQ map

Any suggestions are more than welcome

I've just changed the ECU on my AUQ,

When changing mine I bought an ECU of eBay, then sent it off to get the immo deleted (dark-tech on ebay). All in was £120 (£60 for the ECU, £60 for the Immo delete, £5 postage on each and £5 to send it to have the immo deleted). Turn around was a week or so and once I had the ecu back installation was about a 20 minute painless job.

read your file from the original and flash it into the bam

failing that, you can flash an original file for your car, or have it mapped, over writing the bam software to make it LC180 again

Thanks fellas, appreciate the assistance. I don't have the original ECU so extracting the map from it isn't an option. I had a chat with a local 1.8T conversion outfit who specialise in fitting engines to mk2 golfs etc and they're going to supply and fit a used AUQ ECU with immobiliser defeat for £140 this Friday. Not ideal but I don't have a stock ECU file or the right equipment to flash the car with one.

Specialties are slim if they can't sort the ECU you have now.
The ECU you have is the same so shows there skill.
Let hope you keep the old ECU or they are laughing all the way to the bank.

They do mk2 wiring loom conversions, so they were the best bet for sourcing a used ECU. They don't do mapping or any other tuning. Sold them the BAM ECU as they needed it to go into a mk2 golf track car project. Now running perfectly. Total cost £80. Not bad at all.

They needed the ECU you had and...
You paid £80 for what exactly?
What did you get from them for the bam mapped ECU?
Congratulations on the car driving ok now but something does make sense.

Andrew,

If you can find an AUQ ECU and have the immobiliser defeated for less than £80, you're doing well mate. Bearing in mind that I never turned a screw, and it was done the same day, there's nothing to complain about as far as I'm concerned.
