Well since they passed an MOT on Lorna's car, and they mean you can see in the dark - then I can't see a problem

it's illegal to make a car without auto leveling and washing, but I can't see anywhere in the MOT that says you can't have them

oh, i thought they couldnt be retro fitted to a car that wasnt designed for them originally? Might have to check up on this..

i ordered my HID conversion kit tonight :D

so watch this space... HID projectors! :)

I've fitted a 8,000K HID kit to my Dads A6 (it has projecters as standard).

It does really take 20 mins to install, and you can very easily revert back to the standard lights for MOT time.

If you are converting, get some rubber rings to keep the rear cover of the headlamps sealed, the fit I've done to my dads A6 does look OEM and the results are pretty amazing!

The kit was £230, not too sure where he got them from!

best mod i've done by far on my car, i got the Pilot H7 6000k kit from hids4u.co.uk last month and so many people have commented on them already, i wouldnt like to go any higher than 6k tho cos i think they would be too blue and not as bright/white and crisp, my mate has 8500k on his Type R and they look daft :D

Where did everyone fit their ballasts?

I stood there thinking.. hmmmmm.. but used some strong double sided tape and cable tied one to the washer bottle, and the other one i cable tied to the old air feed from behind the headlight. One of them seems to be a bit intermitent starting.

On some cars after market HIDS are annoying, with reflectors that arnt designed for HIDs and the light bounces off all over the shop., i was very caucious about fitting them to my LCR, but the headlights where so rubbish that i had to.

They seem to work really well in the Leon light housing, i think becuase the reflector finishes quite far back in the housing, and becuase they are so narrow. The light pattern is quite focussed/directional.

Dont go for anything over 6000k.. if got 5000k and fire blue, but fade to a crisp white. as the kelvin number gets higher the brightness gets less, but the colour gets greater, but to be honest.. it only looks good in projectors.

Only dilemea i have no is where to fit the ballasts for the high beams.

Rob

Still not got my LCR yet!!!

Are the headlights really that bad on the 2005 model? I wanted factory fitted Xenons but couldn't get them.

Anyone tried the xenon bulbs (not fully enclosed headlights) that you get on ebay from 5 to 20 quid??

Sorry, just seen that this is quite a common topic on here.

Had a quick look on powerbulbs - I assume most people just upgrade the H7's and not the H1's?

top piece of kit mate, my mate has the £200 pound kit on his fiat coupe and he wishes he'd paid the extra £40 and got the pilot kit, the quality is better and u get water proof ballasts.

The cut off is very good also, ive not had one person flash me yet thinkin that i have full beam on, and the difference between these and the halogen bulbs is unreal, u wont regret buying them mate :D

and as asked above, the height adjusting rotar next to ur light switch does still adjust the xenons :D

I assume you mean just standard swap out Xenon bulbs.

No real differnce between these and standard bulbs. Its just they put Xenon gas in instead or Halogen. But they still use a filament.. where as a Proper Xenon HID bulb it burns as an arc in the Xenon gas. Which is much brighter.

my adjuster seems as quick as any other car i've had or been in :)

Oh on mine you twizzle the thingy and you take your finger off.. look up and they literally take 5-7 seconds to finish moving.

Rob

EDIT: ok that sounded dirty

Yep, I get that (Ithink) - the bulbs claim to be 30-50% brighter, just wndered if ayone had bought any of ebay and what the quality was like?

Nah i brought some, the looked a nice blue colour but they didnt seem any better, if anything they where worse at around dusk time before it was completleydark but was dark enough to require headlights.

9 times outta 10, u get what u pay for, just splash out and get the real thing, u'll wish u'd never bothered arsing about with "wannabe" xenon bulbs etc :)

if anyone wants, i'll venture outside and see if i can take some pics of my ballasts?

(bearing in mind my bro just got some fancy new digi cam and i've no idea how to work it  )

dont they get warm anyway ? never had guts to touch em - lol
