If it's any consolation, over on Briskoda the Octavia VRS boys are upset because their car came 17th having being voted best hot hatch by What Car.

Which cars came top? There must be some happy owners somewhere.:D

The Type R is getting very mixed reviews. I think hot hatches are not necessarily just about outright speed but handling, involvement and excitement. The Mazda MX5 is by no means a fast car but always does well in track tests.

I just bought the magazine from for the very test, intrigued to see what they thought.

In the list I've only driven the C2 VTS, which I thought was rather anodyne. It was quick-ish and handled well, but it just didn't make me grin because it didn't have a soul. The Cupra had me sold with it's addictive and distinctive power delivery and it's six gears (seriously).

I guess it's whatever floats your boat.

Interesting results!

The Fabia VRS did well, beating the Octavia as well.
Is that the new Leon Cupra? If so that is a very bad result.
The Swift and Panda did very well – both scoring for fun per pound I suppose.
A poor result for the Astra VXR.

The Top Gear magazine journalists are always a bit quirky, even more so than their TV colleagues.;)

I would love to know the criteria that they grade these cars on cos some of the results there are

Init matey!

Going back to the Sport KA v Ibiza (if which ever form)

0-60 of the KA. 9.5

0-62 of a std PD130 9.4 (book figure!)

My ex had a Sport KA and as much as it was "pokey" below 60mph, it gave up quickly and ran out of 'poof' just as quickly as one would buy it!

It handling was very good, but wasnt any quicker round a corner than when id take the beeza round the same corner mostly due to not having the speed to get into the corner quick enough!

Its a nice little car, and my ex still has it and loves if for what it is...

But no way would it keep up with even a std PD130 in a straight line, and like most who have posted on this lovely subject... id like to see both std v std around a rewarding track with both twisties and straights for both cars to get a fair go.

Id lean towards the PD130 (if only for less pit stops for fuel :p)

These group reviews are always a load of C**p considering the amount of different groups have been bundled together and the amount of shared platforms that have been placed so far apart its just stupid .
11th place for the bmw 130 i dont expect bmw would be happy with that but if it had the rover badge it was supposed to have in the first place it wouldnt have even got that high would it.
And journalist are definatly not un biased iworked for citroen in the early 90's and both clarkson and Quentin wilson were both on the payroll turning up at all trade days and launches singing citroens praises.

ant in all honesty is do you find that the mini is better than your seat ?

tell me the truth I can take it :hide:

Yep, in fact the mini is the best car i have ever had, Handling wise i'd put it on a par with many of the much more expensive sports car

But with the the mini its the overall package, including ownership, classless image, etc etc.

oh and phase one is better than new phase 2

I really dont know why people slate the handling, I have owned a clio 172, Mr2 roadster, subaru impreza and now a ibiza cupra 1.8t and whilst I dont know what the comparison would be like on a track I generally believe that on the road I found the ibiza to be the same if not better than my 172 although the ibizas hard suspension is rattling my teeth. I would say it is better than my mr2 roadster as that had major body roll a bit when the speed got high. I would say it was on par with my subaru although that could really put the power down through the corners well as the ibiza understeers alot but thats probably because its revo'd now.

to be honest I like that it gets bad reviews as that means hardly anyone will buy them thus making them more rare and individual. I have owned mine for 5 months now and still get excited about driving it well as the others I got bored in the first 3 months. I am really pleased with it and hope to keep it for a long time.
