Possibly mistaken for someone else?
Had you guys ever had ppl coming down your road, stop outside your yard, have a glance at your car and drive off?

Have you noticed this happening outside your house before the incident (report that to the police also), sounds like you have been targeted for your car tbh

I'd heard of executive / supercars being taken at gun / knife point before but not a 4 door saloon!

Glad that your ok though thats the main thing and as said before, let them take it rather than trying to defend yourself!
with gun crime ever increasing, you may draw a bat from behind your drivers seat and before you hav even taken a swing you could be on your arse!

I do have to agree though given you are from birmingham and you do hear of an inceasing amount of gun related crimes i wouldn't hesitate to comply as you never know.
You see in leeds we dont really have much of that its usually straight forward hand to hand combat..:cartman:

The other thing to watch out for is being followed home, if they know your route or where you work etc...

I've always been aware of this, due to a previous job from a few years ago, and if i thought someone was following me I'd always drive around a bit to make sure their were'nt following me, maybe a bit drastic, but better to be cautious than end up in an iffy situation on your tod, or shot...

Well you'd probably both be dead or in intensive care by the sound of the violence involved in these attacks.

If you think pride and stuborness are worth more than your life then pick up that patetic maglight and take on those two guys with baseball bats. I'm sure you'll feel better for trying... For about 30seconds until the lights go out.

Possibly.... but i think i know my own limitations or abilities, if they had guns then no, I most certainly wouldn't argue with them, but baseball bats don't stand a chance against half a ton of moving car, if they get run over then tuff sh*t.... i'd have absolutly no hessitation, in useing my car as a weapon if i really, really had no other choice.

Anyway Biglad, glad your ok, and getting your motor sorted...

Very sorry to hear what happened Big Lad and hope your getting over it okay!

I brought an LCR because i didnt want the attention that other similar cars bring on themselves. Guess the scum of this earth are catching onto them.

I go into Brum quite alot at night, normally always with a car full of mates luckily, but I'll still be sure to keep a eye on what traffic is pulling up behind/around me.

Probably even seen you about sometime, seen a few nice LCR's round by the BP/Hamshall Road on a weekend.

Just dont let the thieving scum put you off having a nice car.

note to self: Don't go to birmingham! Glad your ok though mate.

It seems people are either saying "fight" or "hand over the car". Every situation is different, however using your car as a weapon even in self defence could see you a lot more trouble than it's worth! Things that you would normally find in a car eg "steering lock, wheel brace, and heavy mag light" are all very well to use in self defence, however I can't imagine them being much use in a group situation if they are all armed.

I would say the best way to handle it would be to try and get away or if totally blocked draw as much attention to urself as possible, sounding the horn or alarm if you have one with a panic button.

Have you mobile phone switched on charged up and within easy reach and call 999, even if you can't speak to them properly you maybe able to shout out your location.

As for things you can do to your car, fitting a tracker has been mentioned and security film to, again both good measures. Get the auto door lock function enabled on your car so the doors lock automatically when you go over 15mph to. The are also various other anti hijack alarms etc which can be fitted after market.

When driving late at night on quiet roads brake well in advance for red lights and just keep moving slowly up to them if you know what I mean to reduce the time that you are stationary.

Whilst stationary be vigilant, and also try and vary your routes home if for example you are always working late or have the same weekly routines.

As for people checking out your car on your drive,if you have a garage put it in that, or if you have another less sought after car use that to block the leon in, or get a car cover.

Hope these tips are helpful and constructive. However like I said each situation is different!

Although i'll suggest safety glass for living in such a rough area, you have no right at all to endanger passengers.

If you're on your own, do whatever the hell you want - adrenaline will override your common sense anyway - but don't risk somebody else's life just because of pride.

It's not just the big cities either!

You would be well advised to be careful no matter where you stay.
I live in a small town in rural Perthshire (i.e. one of the lowest crime rates in the country.)
In the past couple of months a Range Rover Sport and a 911 were stolen and an attempt was made on a Focus ST. I beleive there were others as well, but these three are all confirmed.
These were all done by gangs breaking into the houses in the middle of the night and either stealing the keys or demanding them.

To make things worse, I have seen a dodgy looking Transit van hanging around outside my house very late at night several times since I got my R32. I may be getting paranoid, but it looks to me like they may be trying to figure out which house I live in (one of the benefits of parking the car on the street is that they actually have to see you enter your house.)

So, take care people!
