Hello,
I need a bit of help with my clutch. I know its a common problem and I have done a search but nothing seems to be idiot proof (Me being the idiot:confused:).
I have a 2005 FR Tdi 150 which has been taken up to 185/190 with a remap and green panel filter. There was always a slight clutch slip after the remap which until now I have got used to and fed the power in after 2000/2500rpm. This weekend though the problem has got worse and now slips in every gear and probably wont be long until it gives up. It has lasted 9 mths though.
I have got a local garage that I have used before and trust to fit the clutch so I need to order the clutch (which needs to be a bit tasty as I dont want it to happen again) and get it delivered.

My questions are - 1. What do I need? Clutch or clutch and flywheel. Is a uprated clutch with new oem flywheel ok or is it better to get the two from the same manafacturer?
2. How much are they?
3. Any other things I need to know?

Thanks in advance for any replies, they are seriously welcome.:D

First off you don`t need a flywheel but if for some strange reason they find yours has got damaged stay with a DMF.
Two ways to uprate a clutch:
1. Just buy the uprated pressure plate and stay with the stock drive disc. In your case i really wouldn`t do this as your clutch has been slipping for a while so there is a good chance that you drive disc is burned or scared.
2 . Buy an uprated pressure plate and drive disc, best opion by far.
Sashs is slightly cheaper then Helix but Sashs will only hold 340lb torque where as Helix will hold 370lb.
For prices you can ask on site sponsors as you might get a discount or try Allards for Helix clutches. Click on the link and scroll down to Ref 74.

Nice and clear answer thanks. I have seen the sachs clutch kit on Jabbasport and it is £500. The helix in your link is £387 but I thought you said sachs is cheaper? Also, my remap was quoted as 300lb of tourqe so the sachs kit which is rated at 340lb should be ok?

I would say if you have the cash (£250) fit a new flywheel. You will find a few guys on here that have had to replace their dmf. If your car has done higher mileage change it!

I had a reply back from Jabbasport that the sachs kit will handle 380lb and can be delivered within 24hrs for £495 so I think Ill go with that. Will chance not fitting the dmf as the cars only done 30k of which 9k was on the remap. Thanks for the info though:)

It should be fine at that mileage then.
Mine has done 100k on the original but its starting to knock a little through the pedal.

£387 + VAT = £455 + P+P

Make sure you are getting an organic drive disc not a cerametallic disc. Sachs clutches are guaranteed to hold 340lb torque they can hold 380 lb torque, if Jabba are telling you it is to guaranteed hold 380lb then they are talking crap. There is nothing wrong with either kit but Helix is guaranteed to hold more torque then Sachs.

Bugger. Ive ordered the sachs kit now along with a new release bearing. I think the remap I had was quoted as 300lb so I hope this will be sufficient. How much does the standard clutch hold then? Ive heard of them giving way without remaps.
Thanks for the help:)

Car booked in next tuesday, I will bump this thread back up and let you know how it is.

Stock clutch is ment to hold 300lb but are not really up to the job since as you stated tend to slip even on stock cars. A full Sachs clutch like you have bought should be fine, i know people with hybrid turbos using the same setup and never having any problems.:)
