Hey,

Got bored so was thinking of stipping out the back of my 2.0 8v this weekend.

Anything i need to be careful of when taking the stuff out?

general advice is to remove the rear seats, parcel shelf, spare wheel and leave it at that because once you start removing any of the side panels and sound deadening it gets VERY loud and rattly inside.

Doesn't get rattly - just noisey

my 1.4 which had nothing (no dash or anything) was really nice to drive as there were no rattles or squeaks.

road noise was bad though :cartman:

nothing to be mindful of though. just get some velcro to stick the flap of carpet down above the fuel pump
 
Nothing to worry about, just start ripping bits out!

I stripped my Cordy (all bar dash and door cards) and it was noisy but rattle free!
 
Took my seats out, Spun the car on roundabout, put seats back in.....................................We shall it leave it there!

yeah, lol , forgot to mention it is advisable to space out your rear wheels after you have stripped out the rear.

Not so much for track but just for the fact i wanted more driveability out of the car and at least i dont have to give to many lifts to people.

after stripping it i wanted to just shove some buckets in cause the cobra factory is 10 mins from my house so nice and cheap.

To be fair mate, you aint gunna go no more driveability out of it unless your area is a donnington replica!

Fair play with the buckets though. Saw Ibiza_95's GTi in pontefract last night and that looks awsome with the cage and buckets.
 
The Cordy can be stripped without having to space out the rear wheels, I only had my rear end once, and I was trying too hard at the Nurburgring!

The cage and bucket combo was great for the track and looked awesome, it was also very uncomfortable and made passengers and load carrying an absolute nightmare!
 
It's addictive! Once you realised how much difference the weight removed makes you'll be like Mork and I and end up with no sound proofing or dashboard....

yeah i have finally got everything undone and need to finally get everything out the car tomorrow so i will let you know how its rides

acutally just thinking about it now i have all the back out of the gti, do you recon a front and rear strut brace would go down well?
 
I have a front one but not a rear as I have the cage instead. It will help to firm things up a little bit, but TBH I think you get better returns for your money from fitting some uprated anti-rollbars. Especially on the back.
 
Its much better to drive with the rear seats, spare wheel, wiper and belts removed. beyond this you wont notive any difference and the panels insulate the road noise so much and weigh bugger all. Get rear spacers though.

With the weight removed the responsiveness of the engine is so much better it pulls from a lower rev range (problem area on 16v)
