LCR Diagnostics..Opinions please

yeah, i was thinking the same thing to be honest, i changed it to 3bar at the weekend - the rest of the spec doesn't lend itself to stage 2 either. i'm going to ring big boys toys later to find out which map was applied and when, and what mods were on the car when it was done...

what i am a bit worried about is putting a lower pressure FPR on if the map actually needs the higher pressure for whatever reason!
 
I would say you need to log 118 before ordering a new 249 or anything else - the more you tinker the worse it'll (might) get.

118 shows N75 duty cycle vs actual boost (or am I wrong and I mean 115?), and it's a good way of seeing if you have a leak.
 
ok mate thanks... i'll get on to rob (longman) and arrange another session before spending any more money AND while i'm there log AFR too (which block would that be!?!) to make sure i'm not running lean anywhere in the map now i have the 3bar FPR fitted.
 
Yeah, 118 is boost duty and actual boost. (Along with Engine speed and Air intake temp.) Thanks phil, I will have a look. Am I right in thinking that, if the duty cycle gets up to 100%, then there is a leak??

In terms of A/F mix, I have a graph to use with blocks 002 to work out Load against A/F Ratio? Please could someone confirm what I should be looking for?

Or would you suggest using something else like 116 to show fuel correction factors?
 
Yep, that's roughly right - in layman's terms, the duty cycle shows how hard the ECU's trying to make boost. When the boost first comes in (when it's spooling up) the duty cycle will hit 100%, as the actual boost is below requested and the N75 shuts the wastegate to get the turbo to spool.

Then as it's spooled up, the actual should hit requested (or be a bit above, or below) and you should see the duty sitting at about 95%, or less. In other words, the turbos delivering the requested boost without trying super-ooper hard.

If the duty cycle sits at 100%, once it's spooled, the turbos trying to produce requested boost, but can't for some reason of another... usually a leak... possibly N75. The N249 code pops up "sometimes", but could well be a distraction, particulalry if the line between the N249 and the top of the DV is split (have you thoroughly checked that Y pipe that's after the N249?), or something else on the vac side.

These engines appear to be fussy, but it's usually about one of five things...

Its the 249 code that has popped up. We can have a look at the lines then and make sure thats not it.

Is the N249 under the secondary cover in front of the Inlet Manifold on the LCR? I know the LC is there.
 
Nope, it's under the primary cover, right in the way for changing coilpack three and four. Check the Y pipe - I had mine go, and IIRC there were two others. On the Inside of the "V" of the "Y" - very fine crack/split. Will have to squidge the pipe to see it.
 
ok, update to the saga... checked all the hoses into and out of the N249 and can't see any leaks.. dammit! booked in with longman again this weekend so i'll post any findings up!!

This is a graph of the boost on a 4th Gear Run. It seemed to meet the requested boost ok but tailed of at the end for some reason.

The Wastegate Duty was at a steady 95% at the top of the rev range. We both read that that was a healthy value too.
