Sorry, but I had the VAG Ipod connection in my Golf and I didn't think it was cr@p... Choose the album you want to listen to on the ipod, put it in the dock and press 6 on the head unit to listen to the 'now playing' music. The track skip and ffwd/rwd work and it charges your ipod.

Also, the first 5 play lists map to buttons 1-5 on the head unit. Rename play lists with a number prefix so you can access them easily from the headunit.

So, if you are expecting - or were led to believe you would be getting - *full* functionality from the ipod dock in terms of full access to all tracks via the headunit / MFSW with track info displayed on headunit then yes, it is cr@p... However, as it stands it works quite well and is far better than the AuxIn connection. Yes it could be better and prolly will be with the next Golf platform.

I'm confused...

How can I choose the track I want to listen to when the iPod is hidden neatly in a compartment below the drivers seat with no way of changing the album/track once is has been inserted into the holder?

I think the Golf is different in that the iPod connector is part of the centre console, whereas the standard Leon factory fit is below the drivers seat.

It does the job to some extent but you need to be very clever with your playlists and the capacity of even my 4 gb iPod is wasted as it is a pain to find the track you want with the limit of 5 playlists.

Yes the Golf was in the armrest... I tend to listen to albums rather than individual tracks, so chose what album I wanted to listen to on the ipod then inserted it into the dock...

If you want individual tracks then it ain't so good, unless you create playlists and number them:

1_Reggae
2_Rick Ghastly
3_SWMBOs Cr@p

etc, etc
