Discovered it this morning
be stationary
select first gear with the clutch depressed
ESP ON
Floor it and the revs will hold constant at 3k
Drop the clutch and bang your off!

Doenst work with the ESP OFF.

Anybody else tried this?

I have also experienced this (Although not trying to launch), didn't occur to me that it was Launch Control i only noticed it by accident bored waiting for at traffic lights and decided to see what the exhaust sounds like at high revs, put the accelerator down and thought it was broken as it only went to 3k rpm, then i put it in neutral and it revved the whole way, must say for a diesel it does sound awesome!!! I won’t be trying it out until the roads are a bit drier lol

Yep discovered it by accident as well. there was someone blocking the lane on the way to work so i thought id give it some revs to annoy them and it only went to 3k. not tried it in anger yet it spins in second in the wet withoug trying so god know what first will be like on a full bore launch :)

I just tried it again on lunch, with ESP on it revs to 3k for sure, nothing to do with cold oil (although when i first noticed this i thought the same, some kind of protection for engine when cold) as i did this after a 20 min run, with ESP off then it revs to redline.

The procedure for the FR DSG is slightly different, ESP has to be OFF, in "S" then put foot on brake and throttle.

The Petrol manual, might be a combo of the two methods? ESP off, in first with clutch depressed?

From what i can tell, this was a while ago i found this out - it only revs to 3K because the turbo isnt active (there's no turbo spin up) start to put and clutch bite through the engine and the turbo spins up.

I see what your saying Tam, but why does it not happen with ESP switched off? Or when it's in neutral? Origionally before i saw this post i thought it might be part of ESP to prevent too much wheel spin but i'm probably wrong lol
