Coming from an old Saab 9000 I'm missing the gas struts for supporting the bonnet.

Does anyone know what size struts would be needed and where they can be fitted to the bonnet?

cheers,
andrew

I dont think it will be possible to add a gus strut to the leon, I remember talking about it with a few lads at a seat meet. You could fit one but it would not extend enough, but if it is possible I would want to know straight away!

I think there are some early threads where chaps have used Golf Mk4/5 gas strut and fixing - and yes I miss this too [ suppose it keeps the Seat bean counter happy and sod the customer]

I was looking at mine the other day and I think it would be fairly easy. You would have to cut a small part of the scuttle away though.
Does the Golf use gas struts then? Suppose there could be a chance that it would just bolt straight on?

i remember the first time i got my FR home and lifted the bonnet, was surprised to see no gas struts after having them on the Mk1.

is there a websote with VW spares listed - I'll head over and see how much the struts are and if they're likely to fit.

A trip to a VW dealer might be appropriate so i can have a fiddle with the bonnets

this was extracted from www.seatleon2.es a how to guide to do this.... hope they dont mind

Thanks for the link by the way, sorry I had things on my mind last night.

The skuttle is plastic, It doesn't look like any metal has been cut, I'll have a proper look later.
