I was wondering i want to modife my engine but don't know the best way to go about it could anyone help?:D

Whats the highest upgrade i can get for bhp?

please help

It is a cupra sport 1999 2l 8v gti
I want to start with the engine and then work round the car and everywhere i have looked they either don't do any thing for my car or i just don't like it

Yeah thats what i want to do to start with then work on the outer body eg body kits and alloys

well what you thinking i have a bit of money put away, what did you start with in upgrading your car?
i like your car by the way

Hopefully very deep ;)

Firstly, you're probably best off ditching your AGG 2.0 8v lump and slotting in the ABF 2.0 16v, which will give you an instant 35bhp (115bhp to 150bhp)

Then, £200 will buy you a 4 branch manifold, £350 a de-cat exhaust system, £30 for a Green panel filter, then budget £1000 for cams, a re-map and head work.

Should see you knocking on the door of 200bhp

Once some of the engine work is done and you still have DEEP pockets then you can look into Throttle Bodies. BUT chances are you were just hoping for extra 30bhp for £300, in which case you have a wrong car, as the 8v lump or the ABF 16v lump is very expensive to tune. You'd be better off getting a 1.8t mk3 Ibiza. With those cars a REVO remap will see you extra 35bhp for very little money and engine (because its a turbo) is very tunable. some people on here with 350bhp (IMO pointless in a FWD car).

Anyways, I'd recommend you sort out the handling first before you go sticking bodykits, alloys and exhausts on. So a decent suspension kit (not just springs), some rear spacers, good tyres, strut braces and strip the rear out a little and the car will feel better already ;)

Mig

1.8T would probably be the better option. 156bhp standard, Stage 1 cars (re-map, exhaust, filter) chuck out just under 200bhp, and will probably cost about £600+

However, 1.8T's are more expensive engines to buy than ABF's.

Saying that, tuning the 1.8T is cheaper and there is also more scope to do so.

Yep i agree with Mig, get the handling sorted first. The bezzer a wicked handling car once sorted. Now ive got mine sorted i spend all day looking for country lanes and roundabouts. Far more fun when when you can keep your speed up round the corners..............:drive1:

Decent suspension kit, ideally coilovers, thicker ARBs, polybushes, decent brakes (you currently have 256mm set up, I think the 280mm set up from the GTi 16v is an easy swap)

Would be what I'd do before fiddling with the engine.

im lowered on coilies and have my rear seats in and a 12" sub at the back, (touch wood) i never spin out ...just kinda glide a few times but thats due to needing new tyres but saying that its very controlled.

trust me to tune an n/a engine is a lot of money but the rev's just makes you smile! Specially when you out on track and upsetting a good few biggers cars!
