I have now found out that the ST locking nuts were Mcguards!!

There is a 'trade only' nut that basically has a load of pins inside. When you put it over the McGuard, some of the pins push in and some don't...

If they are professional thieves there is little you can do. Anything less than pro and the McGards will stop them. The Seat ones are prolly only good enough against some Scag Mongrel.

Just remembered something else about McGard.
I lost a key once and went to Halfords to buy a new set of locking nuts because some of them were knackered. The first pack I picked up the key fitted my old locking nuts perfectly!
Slim chance? Or are there only a few different keys?

I was led to believe that there was a couple of hundred combinations... That is quite worrying...

But short of sleeping in your car (and whilst there is a warm naked female in my bed I won't be doing that!) I don't know what else you can do...

Thinking about it, I think I did phone McGard at the time who said there are hundreds of combinations.
Also I've just remembered that the next time I lost a key I went to 2 Halfords stores and tried the keys from about 30 packs in each store and none fitted.

So I guess it was just luck.

Is it really safe to have 2 locking nuts per wheel?

the reason they are going missing is cos they are FORDS.my old st wheels got stolen a few years ago,same as now there were loads of sets going missing.When speaking to the recovery man he said ford only had 8 different wheel keys and all were easily available......Also the ford alarm didnt have a switch that detects the car is being raised......DOES SEAT ALARM HAVE THIS??????

Seat only have about 10 variations as well. i never got the locking key on my old LC so went to the dealer and they came out with a set of all possibles - there wwas about 10 in the box.

lets face it, something that locks is only going to deter the honest people, wether it be a house, shed, car, or a locking wheel nut.

someone that is determined to have something of yours is not going to be detered by something that costs less than a tenner a wheel! after all how good can they be for under a tenner?

bring back corporal punishment! best deterent ever.

I thought a tilt sensor switch could be added to our existing alarms,but after talking to a couple of alarm places aftermarket tilt sensors will not fit?

I'm sure the door pins would be wired to the alarm, so you could make something to trigger them using a tilt sensor.

Shouldn't be too hard, I'll look into sometime.
