From looking at the pictures, the only "not fit for purpose" aspect is the gearbox. All the underside damage,is still structurally solid. Go to the Trader and CALMLY bring to his attention all the defects and only then mention the Trading Standards or he will say nothing and ask you to leave the premises. I learnt the hard way. Actually no! The trading standards guy told me just to get proof of postage cos if it was sent recorded, he could just refuse to sign for it.
if he refuses to sign for it, wouldn't it be returned to you?

proof of postage is legally considered proof of receipt. Such is the %age accuracy of Royal Maim.

Crikey, good luck with the AA and Trading Standards, etc.. We all make mistakes in life and you probably had other things on your mind - baby on the way, etc. - so lesson learned I'm sure. Keep the stress away from your nearest and dearest and if you get no joy with the AA/Trading Standards, then make some noise and take him to the Small Claims Court - http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm.

Hope it goes well. I'd be tempted to haggle his £7500 offer up a little then take it. Expensive lesson but you might get £7500 - £8000 back from him.

All back and not less, even some sort of compensation for your trouble as claims court and trading standards if found to be selling not fit for use goods could fine him and you entitled to claim maybe!

All back would be ideal but you might have to compromise just to cut your losses. Worst case scenario is an extended battle where you get nothing back cos the bloke digs his heels in. I've seen a few stories dealing with dodgy traders who end up coming out on top just cos they're so unhelpful and stubborn. I'd be annoyed but my primary concern would be getting rid of that car for as little loss as possible.
Just thought I'd chime in. Good luck matey. To part with all your (most likely) hard earned cash to get fobbed up with a crapper is absolutely gutting.

Good luck with sorting your car out,i looked at a type r civic before i purchased my lcr,and that had been bodged back together after being totaly paneled,and i mean EVERY panel had some kind of repair on it.The seller was a bit sheepish when i started pointing out all the crap panel gaps/overspray etc...its a bitch that most of the damage on yours is underneath,so it was easy to miss,as i said,good luck mate....
no, it was a proper trader, but called him yesterday and he said he won't be giving us a full refund.

.Now we have to wait for a week and a bit to see if he changes his mind and then call back trading standards who'll take it to the next level (whatever that is). My wife knows someone in trading standards, so hopefully they can tell us what might happen next
