Kinetic Manni arrived today..... Doesnt mean im happy. (All up and running now)

After 2 weeks of waiting for my kinetic manni to arrive from the states, it arrived today.

So straight after work i got cracking with removing the old one, 2hrs later and a swear box bursting at the seems it was off.

Great i thought, Ill get the new one on, and then get it all fixed up after work tomorrow. WRONG! The new manni didnt fit the top flange is fowling on the head not allowing it to mate to the head properly.

Now, I`ve spoken to the guy at kinetic and hes asked me to grind it down which im going to get done tomorrow not all that happy about doing it as im worried that it may weaken the flange near the bolt holes making it prone to cracking? To be fair with the guy from kinetic he has said that if it was to go pete tong or crack EVER i will get a free replacement. If it had been from a UK based company i think i would have asked for a replacement on next day delivery but as its in the states im willing to give it a go as i also have pod on sunday.

Anybody got any hints/tips for me when i come to grind abit off the top flange?

Overall was pretty gutted.

I think I'd want that in writing from them - there's not a hell of a lot of metal to the edges as it is, even before you start into it with an angle grinder.

Harsh! Was prob a little to be expected from a product from the USA where they do not have ibizas. Saying that though they do have 1.8T so there shouldnt really have been any problem.

As you said PJ they have the 1.8T in the states so there shouldnt have been an issue. As its not clearing the head theres no excuses for it really.

very strange, 2 hours can i ask what tools you used and any good techniques!

you thinking 2hrs is a long time? i used a 1/4 ratchet with a 2" and 3" extention and a knuckle and a couple of the easier ones i used a 1/2" ratchet with the same bits as above. As for techniques i`d say just dont give up and keep at it. And use proper 12 sided sockets

Once ive ground it down ive still got to get all the nuts back on! MISSION!

thats gonna be the hardest bit i think, ive got the atp one to fit soon did you spray them with anything, no sheering issues i take it as thats what im worried about as everything on my car is done up so bas*ard tight, when i fit my brembos at the weekend i had to replace a brake pipe, had to cut it out once out i put it in a vice and still no joy was a right cu*t!!!

yeah when you grind it down make sure you keep it well lubricated. if it gets too hot from the grinding it may weaken it. i know they are built to get hot but not built to take a pounding when they are!

when you 'fit' it don't forget to put the mani to turbo bolts in

too hot from grinding it down???? never in a month of sundays

removing material which is excess material lets face it wont effect the properties of the manifold which will get to 1000'C temps anyhow in use.

gert big grinding disk on there.. job done.

but if he is afraid that its too close to the bolt and this might weaken it or crack even. then he will be going slow when doing the job. And when metal is being machined its always go to keep it lubricated.

And advice is advice. Doesn't mean he has to do it.

I say just cut it off but after getting it from the states i think he should be as carefull as possible.

I wouldnt worry about, a lot of decent manifolds have expansion slots in the flange to allow, well expansion under heat cycling.

Just mark it up and grind it down.

And they would honour the free manifold as well, they get a lot of thumbs up and are active on Vortex.

I've got to ask the question, because I've been comparing other pictures of manifolds for ten minutes......

You haven't got a bent stud that's holding the manifold out of position slightly, have you?

Well guys its ON! What a total arse it was to do aswell.

Grinding it down wasnt a problem at all and after about 20minutes of grinding it went stright on and it was the flanges that was stopping it from going on.

I lost the light so ive just got to connect the turbo to the manni now and i think thats going to be a 2 man job as the turbo has to be pulled pretty hard upwards to mate to the manifold thats for tommrow.

There was one nut that i couldnt for the life of me get to and that was the 2nd one in from the right at the bottom im going to run it and see how it goes and if it does give me any hassles blowing etc.. im going to take it to the local garage and get the turbo whipped off which should allow very easy access to that nut. Drum roll for badgers bodger comment . I hate bodgeing things but i couldnt for the life of me get to that bolt. So i hope its going to be ok.

Ill report back tommrow once ive taken it for a spin and seen what its like. Fingers crossed no problems.

Well that kind of makes me feel better lol,

Red, get yourself on vortex and get in contact with clay from kinetic and they will post to the UK i only had it deliverd to friends in the states then shipped to me because at first i didnt think they would ship to the UK.

Im going to contact the garage we use at work tommrow once its all back together so he can have it in next week and try and get this last nut on as i want it done properly.

Please make sure you get to that nut mate. It may be hard but will be worth it! If its worth doing its worth doing properly!

exactly PJ, i cant be arsed with messing with it any more im going to get it put back together tomoz so i can get up to pod on sunday. But im going to see the chap at the garage tommrow once its back together so i can get it booked in next week to see if he can get it on. Even if i have to pay to get it re-fitted id rather have it done properly.

At least ive had a good pop at it.

Going to have to give the engine a good clean when its all down, theres a few blood spots
