"So tried locking the car and holding, didn't budge the windows... But then played around again and went up eventually"

That sounds similiar to what my window used to be like, but my passenger window was fine, and the drivers window would work if and when it felt like it.

You tried cleaning the switch contacts? I was about to buy new switches but after messing about this them, taking them apart, cleaning them, swapping them around blah blah...they both work perfectly fine!

No..will only 'reset' car. Might have to adjust the time which your board computer reads, and it will clear you fuel consumption reading...and the day counter of your miles (don't know what you call that) but the one that (in europe) goes to 1000 KM and then goes back to 0....

that's it

Window fooked on my drivers side, switchs are new, I can hear a clicking when I press the button up/down, surely if the motor/reg was dead it wouldnt make any noise??

My passenger side used to act the dik but it was simply loose wires connecting into the switch ...
Such a frustrating problem

I've got a similar problem, greased all the moving parts up and i get a horrible grinding noise when the window goes up in two places. i've look but have no real idea to what it is? its only done it after i tryed opening the window when it was frozen up.

The window moves up and down on a high tensile wire and a motor correct?? now the only thing i can think of is the wire is frayed and catching when it goes round and into the window runner.

took a look inside the door today but aint a clue where the cables run?
would it be a big job to remove all the components to service outside the car? would also like a better look at the motor as i have noticed rust developing on the screws and im wondering if it has possibly started to rust on the inside . .

its not a big job but make sure you have someone with you who has a good grip to hold the window while you take it out then put a block of wood in to hold it while you look at it

Im having this annoying problem. the previous owner disconnected the P/S window for this very reason.

I locked the car and could still hear the motor clicking away!

I have now joined the electic window switches club... just been outside playing with them to get them to work. My drivers side one started working intermittently. Then I had to press it really hard and now it doesn't work at all.... following on from that my passenger window now works when it wants to when trying to operate it from the drivers side. I swapped them over and got the drivers side working every time !
I spoke to my mate and he said something about the switches working through each other ? So if one goes the other wont work properly ???

Think I shall get two new switches....
