Got a Tunit on my Altea 2.0 TDI 140, goes better, economy about 10% worse, turn it up & it smokes like an old school bus! Would I buy another? Hmmm, well, the mid range punch is really good with it fitted, but I recently had to have a new engine as the turbo failed & took the engine with it, I think this is down to the turbo spinning faster. Just glad its a company car!!!!

I don't think that the turbo spins any faster when the tuning box is fitted, it's more to do with extra fuelling hence the smoke coming out the back as unburnt fuel. I read somewhere that the 2.0 140bhp engines, and perhaps some others, were using two makes of turbo, one that would last and one that had a tendancy to kill it's self. It could be more related to this than the tuning box?

He suggested that the 140 tdi engine is only safe up to 'about 170bhp' due to the small turbo over revving, but the 170 tdi engine has a larger, roller bearing turbo & is safe to 'over 220bhp'.
