right, heres my problem, i've got a boot light, but it doesn't seemto work.... the bulb has not blown, interior light works so fuse is ok... has anyone else had a problem with the boot light not workikng?

its a new motor too (58 plate), so i would have thought it would be working:lol
is somethingive missed, or is a 'take it to dealer' pproblem?

Are you sure you have a boot light Mr Owl :cartman:

Id say take it to a dealer, however with Doncaster/Chesterfield dealerships both sucking whale dork, id pass on that.

yes mr spark i have held the light in my hand. lol.. the wiring goes somewhere behind the rear panel... donny dealership turned away warranty work because they couldnt be bothered to do it because AND I QUOTE ' its too much work to do'.... chesterfield have been fine with me... i go see the salesman who sold me the motor and it gets done lol... only thing i haven't done is change the actual bulb, (as i ant got any on me or at work) but the bulb is not blown so i would assume its ok.. plus its never worked

Id offer you mine, however some of us Mk4 lot didnt get boot lights :cartman:

It could possibly be bent pins on the boot lock switch behind the tail gate trim, they end up bent when they are being installed at the factory.

When you Say the bulb has not blown have you checked the continuity of it or just a visual check?

Maybe the switch is faulty. I think the switch is inside the boot lock/catch mechanism.

If it has never worked it may be because the dealer disconnects them when on display at the dealer with the boot up (even though there is a timer on them and they go off after a few mins).

its just a visual check... i wll be checking continuity as soon as i've finished writing this lol.

will also check them pins...

cheers fella's

right fella's... i have power to the light unit AND also the bulb is in working order :S
there is no corrosion on the points of contact, i am really stumpted here..

Depending on how you have measured the voltage at the light unit you may have a faulty switch.

I reckon that the boot light works with negative switching (permanent 12v supply and then switch the earth by the boot lock/catch). if you measured 12v from one terminal to earth this is normal. Try measuring a voltage across the 2 bulb contacts with the boot open. If you get nothing I reckon the switch is faulty.

Yep, just run a wire from the interior light under the headlining and fit a light. It will come on via the interior light switch or with a door open.

Or you could order a new boot lock/catch with the switch fitted and wire that up.

TBH the boot light is not very good and only lights up one side of the boot, an LED torch clipped or velcro'd in your boot is way more practical and can be used to change a tyre or fill washer fluid in the dark too.

sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead but does anyone know the voltage of the boot light? im thinking of running a long strip of leds along the top of my boot.
