Ok so car went in for MOT yesterday & failed! grr!

Only thing was the centre rear exhaust bracket broke, so figured this cant be to bad, phoned my local skoda garage to do the work gave my VIN number and they quoted me £205 + VAT for bracket replacement, i was like WHAT, she told me its attached to the exhaust so i need a new rear exhaust system?? does this sound right?
Have a Cupra R 210 i cant imagine seat would have designed sommin so stupid! ? ? any 1 have a seat layout of an exhaust system?

This problem has been replaced before on my old Cupra Sport, however it only cost me £30 they just replaced the bracket cuz they "prone to going"

Anybody else had anything like this happen?

also got quoted
£260 + VAT for 80,000 mile service
£45 + VAT for Brake fluid change (as I've not had it done)

So since Jan 09 I've spent £450 on insurance. £53 on MOT £127 on 2 new tyres, now meant to spend another £585 just so i can drive the damm car! thank god my TAX aint due till june!

I had mine changed to a Miltek Cat back before Christmas.

I take it you mean the bracket near the cat, If so it is NOT fixed to the exhaust, The exhaust just hang's from it on rubbers.

Cheers DK, without being able to get under my car myself (especially in this weather) i cant exactly say whats what? looks like on your picture some kind of bracket is welded to the exhaust itself ?

If its the same centre exhaust mount that is the common problem on the golfs etc, i had mine welded for a tenner!!

Just a thought really dude, as if its the case whereby something has rusted away, surely it can replaced and welded nicely?

unless they quoted for the exhaust perhaps... ?

I asked for a break down of where did £205 come from, she said it included part of the exhaust system however she wasn't sure how much, i said my exhaust is fine i don't need any exhaust, i just need a bracket, she told me that the bracket is attached to the exhaust itself, hence £205,

I think this is the route I'm going to have to go down, however i cant understand a design by where a "part prone to breaking" is attached directly to a very expensive component and it cant be made separate.

sounds like the center silencer it has a bracket which is part of it and often rusts off.. i have heard of people havin them welded back on guess it depends wat state it is in.. £205 sounds quite excesive for jus a center box!

If it's the middle bracket (by the cat) this is a triangle plate with a rubber bush hanging from it, this plate then bolt's to the floor pan therfore holding the exhaust up.
Have a look on Ebay there was one on there being broke or try getting it welded.

Bear in mind that mine is a 225 but I would of thought they would be the same.

Will have a quick look, however am on a tight time frame as I've only got 8 days left before my MOT test expires (10 days for free re-test)

haha yea i dont blame ya..i only went there while the car was under warrantee... i dont get on with them either...and everyone ive spoke to says the same too

They are so shocking! (stoneacre)
Their customer service is non-existent! hence the calls to wings. i gotta say i do trust t wings with my car, they offer great customer service ask all the right questions and normally are normally very knowledgeable, best of all they call when they say they gonna call! So i tend to stick with em, this is the first problem I've had with them and even then its not their fault! its a seat design it seems, point of the thread was just to make sure what I'm being told is correct and the the bracket is actually part of the system, and so far it would seem it is!

My step brother old leon did this, just weld the exhaust hanger bracket back on, local exhaust company will do it for £20, only take 10mins if that. Or if you have the cash and want to, get an aftermarket one.
