cupra r fog light

Having a problem with my cupra r style front fog lights...
one of them works fine. the other one only comes on if you bash the glass.
so i decided to swap the bulb for a new one and it blew instantly (55W halogen H3). thought that was odd so i checked the fuses and a 15W fuse had been fitted in place of the 5W that should have been there. so i put in a 5W fuse + tried the lights - the fuse blew
any input, ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.

yeah, but the strange thing was that before the fuse blew the light was working. its just that you had to bash it to make the light come on. that was with a 15A fuse.

thats why i thought the bulb was at fault but then the new bulb instantly melted

damn. i just checked the bulbs i tried and they were only rated 6V. shouldve been 12V - no wonder they melted.
still not sure why the fog only comes on when i tap it? gonna try cleaning the contact points and pop a new fuse in tonight. thanks for your response Rick.
i guess the handbook is wrong and a 15A fuse IS correct for the the fog lights

I had the same problem with one of my numberplate bulbs, it'd only come on after a tap. I just took the bulb out and gave the contacts a clean with some WD40 and it did the trick.

thanks for the ideas.
i cleaned the contacts on the bulb and the housing with some fine sandpaper and wd40 and the problem was still there. So i gave the actual plug contacts where it connects to the loom a good clean and hey presto! mustve been getting a bad contact. cheers
