People,

After a years ownership my FR+ was due for its first MOT so in she went and came out the other side without a mark on her, straight through no advisories, nothing, "perfect" in the words of the tester.

Now the emmisions part. now I'm not a complete expert at this (as you'll see).
The 150PD is in the <150co2 emmission greenhouse gase carbon grammes per second out the exhuast bracket (told you). On the emmisions test there is a a limit which has been set at 150, and below this the test result, which states 109!

Now then does this mean those loverly people at government HQ are going to drop my car into the £35 tax band, seeing as its all computer generated now.

I've either got this very wrong and i've just made a fool of myself, or ive got it right and being very optimistic! Something tells me even if I am right the tax drop would never happen, but if I am its a credit to the engine that its producing such low results after 35k and a full bill of servicing. I would of expected the results to have been closer to the quoted 150co2/grammes.

Maybe one person could shed some light, and no I didn't ask the man behind the desk, I took my paperwork and went home before looking over it with a cup of tea and filling it.

no they wont allow you to change tax groups.
I would imagine the c02 grouping for a car is based on a set testing regime that represents typcial use.
The car would be tested at a standstill and so this test is not the same as a cyclic type test.

Im not that clued up either on this, but im sure the test at the MOT is to check that the car is running ok with the lamda senser is working correctly etc.

An interesting point, and not something I'm particularly clued up on. Although I'm certainly with you, on never getting a tax drop, even if you are right.

Also whilst on the subject on tax, I'm intrigued to know why the Ibiza Cupra R is in a lower band to the Leon Cupra? I know its 200 or so Kg lighter, but does that really make such a difference?

People,

On the emmisions test there is a a limit which has been set at 150, and below this the test result, which states 109!

Test conducted in situ and not under load I would think.

As for the Ibiza Cupra R being in a lower bracket, 200kgs makes a massive difference. Around 15% probably - weight is a real killer, so although the Health & Safety features are nice it's costing us dear in the CO2 stakes and doing little for the planet!

I knew I was being optimistic about the tax band, but its an intresting thought. If you service and maintain your car well then be nice if us motorists got something back? NEVER in a million years!

But on the next point, , i dont know if the reading comes from idle, fast idle or on the govenor test? Anyone know? I'm assuming idle to give such a low reading.

Im therefore assuming government figures are obtained using maximum output over a series of test.

Ahh my 2004 Cupra TDi with nearly 125,000 miles on the clock sailed through this morning. Well except for the headlight bulb being in upside down....wonder who did that! haha.
